This Topic has been set up to follow the Spring 2012 migration, and summer activities, of satellite tracked ospreys, excluding Rothes and Tore from Loch Garten, who are followed on this thread.
It replaces this earlier thread, Satellite Tracked Ospreys (non-LG) Aug 2011 - Feb 2012.
This is just as I feared given weather conditions in the Sahara. This is going to be a difficult migration for many ospreys.
I reckon it's the weather, Tiger. As Tim points out there was a significant easterly wind at the time which might have pushed him further out to sea than he realised. Just goes to show how much the weather influences migration. The forecast for the next few days is actually worse for any birds still at their wintering quarters as the wind is set to turn into a moderate northerly.

Maybe we discover why birds do not follow the coast.
Getting an easy meal may not compensate for the risk of getting blown out to sea.

The worrying thing now is what condition was he in when he found land. I hope he finds fish and rests.

Great pics of Beatrice. Thanks Alan :-)
If nothing goes right, go left! :-)
Wow she hauls in whoppers like EJ. On one picture she barely has hold of the fish by one talon

Thanks Alan. The photographs are brilliant and so lovely to see.
Tiger/Alan/BrendaH. Thank you
Praying for 09 and Brenda, so worrying and hope he finds land and what condition will he be in.
edited he has found land and praying for him. sorry for not reading correctly
Just back in from a trip to Crieff, Pitlochry and Loch of the Lowesa and was alerted by a PM to the news of 09(98).
Just grateful he had made land before the data stopped.
He probably would have made The Canaries but what route from there.
His routing following the coast is not consistant with his Autumn migration keeping well inland through his travels in Africa only coasting when he reached Senegal.
