NEWS FROM OTHER NESTS - 2012

Dunedin male:

  • Thanks for those links Tiger.

I have been checking on this thread and yesterday I felt 'brave' enough to join in!

Rach - I know just what you mean about the peregrine nests!

  • Thanks Tiger, for the link to Froona's site, very enjoyable.

What a shame about the Richmond nest. Can anyone enlighten me on 'PBDE congeners' that are thought to be the cause of the problem? I'm guessing it's something man-made.

A thing of beauty is a joy forever.

As you may know Froona sadly died a few years ago.

I must have chatted to her but I cannot remember knowingly doing so. Her passing was so sad and her memorial is still so moving.

  • No, Tiger, I didn't know that she had died.

The continuation of the site in her name is fitting tribute and memorial to her.

The tribute that always gets me is this one from the Italian peregrine forum

Froona, will not forget our talks, how sweet you have been to me.
    Good night.
May you meet "Up, up the long delirious burning blue" as a falcon in his highest flight!
A little one will be born soon in Florence we will call by your name.

  • Not sure which nest they are talking about but this has been tweeted from the Lakes:

"Exiting morning at Lakes Ospreys 2 birds on nest 2 one with white ring on left leg one with white ring on right leg..."

  • Adrian from protection says it is the second nest used by Mrs No-ring not the original one on the other side of the lake.

  • Just asked and had a response from Adrian Strand on Tiger's osprey facebook group: it is the Dodd nest used by Mrs & No-ring until 2010. No ID yet, but they should know eventually if these birds hang around - I'm fairly sure they have maintained the camera on that nest.

Adrian also confirmed that white YV was the male of the non-breeding second pair at Bassenthwaite last year, so presumably last year's 2nd female hasn't returned.

Surely they would have reported if white YV had been around last year as well.

  • There is another osprey webcam in Estonia (Kalakotkas 2):

And another to follow later in Latvia.
