In response to the demand for an osprey chat thread I am now making one for September 2011. I guess there will be quite a bit to chat about given the success of the extension thread.

There is a leson in there somewhere! The path to the front door should remain the same!
Tiger, yes I agree... the "right" route is the route that leads to a safe and happy migratation, with many more of "our" Ospreys returning to delight us year on year.
All for one and one for all.
Looking at genetic influences on juveniles' migration direction is interesting...but also very confusing. They are going to have collected a fair few mixed genes over many years.

black jaguar I am not sure if you are aware of it but in 2007 Roy Dennis set out to track a whole family. It was supoosed to be Logie, Talisman, Heather and Thistle. Although Logie became a bit of a star the whole experient was disappointing overall.
Tiger, I've just contracted the ospreyitis bug, having visited LG three times over the summer.. it is all new to me... I just thought that the post about the birds missing Spain was a bit at odds with the route young Bynack had chosen.
With the chiks spending so long in the south it must be almost impossible to track them untill they return.

[/quote]Yes, I realise that Tiger. I had forgotten about changing the index page from LG to a more general index, including a name change. Perhaps the initial links given out should have been to the front door and not to separate pages. Now that the basic structure is in place there will be no reason to change it, just add on as necessary.
Hi black jaguar, welcome :)
Bynack took nearly the same route as the Rosyth to Zebrugge, car ferry! (Without actually going Rosyth), but he got the other end almost right!! :o))

Sat track schedule Spring 2014
LG 7 days; RW & SWT nil; LDOP varies
black jaguar Yes but very few birds have taken the Bynack route. There was a young Scottish bird called S8H which took a similar route in 2001.
In 2008 Deshar thought about going that route but turned back. I think in retrospect he should have carried on.
Good evening EVERYONE and hello to Black Jaguar - nice to see you've joined us
I see not a lot has changed re Tore and Bynack but they seem happy enough exploring and generally finding their talons.
AW is amazing - he's almost home! what a guy. Hamilton or Button of the Osprey world and he chose the race route to perfection crossing the Channel near Dover and the Med near Gibraltar and O9 is following hotly behind almost along the same track wayay ! or however it is spelled.
I wonder where EJ and Odin are now ? it would just be great to know where they winter.
