I offered to start this Topic before my own trip to Scotland, so thought I'd better get on with it.
The idea - somewhere to bring together people's accounts of their visits, photos, useful information, questions from those planning a trip - a sort of scrapbook really.
I still need to write up my own visit, but anyone is welcome to post material or links here.
Whatever lochs they are - super photos, thank you for them!
IMAGICAT
www.nationalmobilityhire.com Hi O goldfinch I found this for you may be worth looking at it no the loch is not Alvie, you are going to far away from original picture, Alan
always many sides to an argument
After some research I also think Lmac's snowy pic showing the church is Loch Alvie.
ChloeB & Tiger's Osprey Data
I also believe Lmac's picture is loch Alvie, the one I posted it at the end of the walk past loch garten then looking to the right onto Loch Mallachie this is where they first filmed an osprey diving down to catch a trout, which has been shown hundreds of times over the years, really looking forward to May when we wiull be back up there. picture of one of the trout in the rothimurchus fish farm and an osprey resting in the same farm, this is where Simon King filmed for Spring watch. Alan
That farm is the one where Rothiemurchus, (blue/white AE) was hatched. The male that Simon King filmed in the 2008 Springwatch (Green SM) did not return in 2009 and the female had to wait until May before getting fixed up with a new male. That is why the brood Rothiemurchus was in was so late.
There are so many fish in the water at Rothiemurchus firm farm that one could probably catch them in your hand.
Tiger Signature
I thought it a great ideia when the farm decieded to charge people £3 just to walk around, two years ago. my wife dropped me off to spend the day there bird watching, while she went shopping with her mum, I managed to see five ospreys flying in and out and across, most I got on video, so well worth the £3, I was talking to the ranger who was telling me he was teaching simon king how to fly fish, wish I had been there, the croft house where we stay is owned by the grants who also own the fish farm, roll on may. Alan
I am sure it cost me and Tiger a fiver each when we visited last year. We thought it was worth it.
Thats inflation for you it is two years since we were there, but as you say worth every penny, I met someone else while there a very obliging chapo. Alan
Nice pic. What camera were you using Alan?
Yes you are correct Chloe and Alan my photo is Loch Alvie. There are just so many lovely Lochs in the Speyside area we could play this game for a long time.
