I offered to start this Topic before my own trip to Scotland, so thought I'd better get on with it.
The idea - somewhere to bring together people's accounts of their visits, photos, useful information, questions from those planning a trip - a sort of scrapbook really.
I still need to write up my own visit, but anyone is welcome to post material or links here.
A few pics of Loch Mallachie from mine and Tiger's visit last year. A magical place despite the dull weather.
Very peaty water just like Loch Garten so no good to fish in...
ChloeB & Tiger's Osprey Data
ChloeB Those are lovely pictures and certainly bring back memories.
On that path down to Loch Mallachie are a lot of very interesting things. Although there is nothing to mark it today is the site of the observation caravan from 1958. We had quite a look around to see if we could spot the eyrie tree from 1958. No luck with that one either. Still it is something to go back and possibly ponder over!
Tiger Signature
Thank you Tiger
"Still it is something to go back and possibly ponder over!" Yes indeed!
ChloeB - WONDERFUL PICS . The third one with the small ialand with the trees is imprinted on my mind .. i think there are goldeneye nest boxes on it if i am not mistaken
Great pictures ChloeB - I'm feeling nostalgic!
googling "walk mallachie" has led me to a brilliant website "walkhighlands" which gives a description of a 5.5 mile walk taking in both lochs, with links to the route on maps and google earth. (You could also do a shorter version starting from the car park at the NW corner of Loch Garten).
Walk description - Loch Garten and Garten woods
This website looks fantastic if you're planning an outdoor-oriented visit to the area. There's a long list of walks of varying degrees of difficulty, plus accommodation, all linked to a virtual highlands map which shows the walk routes & facilities on Google Earth.
Thanks Sunshine and Sue C, glad you enjoyed the pics and looking forward to going back at some stage. Thanks also for the link Sue C. Will take a look at that but must top up my bird feeders first as there is a lot of squabbling going on out there!

You click "use rich formatting" down at the right hand corber. This gives you a set of controls at the top of the screen. The third one from the left is the one you use to post pictures.
Ok hopefully this will work
No it didn't so I will have to study this a bit harder - if I fail I will paste onto photo area and maybe somebody more technically gifted than me can move?
