I offered yesterday to start a new Topic once Bynack had fledged, but as we now have the updated Satellite Tracking page, and biography pages for Tore and Bynack, and there are some tracking results for Tore on Google Earth, I’ve gone ahead with it.
A brief introduction to the ospreys we’re tracking – first, the class of 2011.
Tore – link to her Biography
Tore is the elder of this year’s juveniles, her ring is blue/white 48. She fledged on Tuesday 12th July aged 54 days, and has started to do a little exploring.
Bynack – link to his Biography
Tore’s younger brother, ring blue/white 47. Bynack is aged 53 days today and has yet to fledge.
Edit: He has fledged, at 10.18 am today 16/7.
Rothes – link to her Biography
Rothes is the eldest of EJ and Odin’s offspring, hatched at Loch Garten in 2009. Her ring is white/black PJ. She migrated as a juvenile to Guinea-Bissau, and spent her formative months on the small island of Unhocomozinho, in the Bijagos Archipelago. Now a sub-adult, she has travelled north to Europe for the first time this summer and is currently in the Gironde estuary in SW France, where she also spent 6 weeks on her way south in 2009. So far, she has not returned to the UK.
Rothes' earlier travels were followed in this thread, now closed.
Aerial pic of Tore s location:
patily I think the same as you and thank you ChrisS and waiting for news when Bynack has moved. He did need to stop but I am concerned about the route he might take. None of us know which way they will go and we will just after wait and see and it is not easy
B&B, is this not what wildlife watching is all about.. the unpredictability of it.. we are so fortunate to be allowed to see where these wonderful birds go.
It's my first year following them and I'm totally hooked. I just love it.
All for one and one for all.
Yes I agree black jaguar and as I said we do not know which way they will go and yes it is unpredictable and yes interesting but I do worry about Bynack and hope you do not mind.
I am totally hooked also :)
lol,,, yes he's a worry! he has been since he was born/hatched... took him ages to fledge then his adventure in the North Sea.. we are priviliged to be involved.
I'm told Ospreyitis has no cure... :-)
black jaguar. No cure and cannot help worrying about Bynacks route but all we can do is wait and see what his next movement is and look forward to updates.
So happy for Tore and did worry as someone said she might take the same route as Deshar but she stopped and Deshar flew down the English Channel. If you plot both routes together they both turned around the same point near Kent. Identical routes but Deshar flew down the Channel and out into the Atlantic by winds, if I am right.
Tore is on route and the best news I got last night, when I got home.
agreed, tore is proving to be a wee star.. a long stop in sw england but looks like no stopping her now... let's hope her wee brother gets it right and chooses a good route.
Blackjaguar I confirm ospreyitis is incurable! Updates of locations are brilliant, terrifying & magical all in one!
One Life - Live It!!
valmc wonderful but scared to post on here, and updates by people on here are brilliant but please just stick to the facts and yes incurable but no allowance for feelings. I got into trouble and the dinosaurs here do not llike it.
edit that was the non tracking LG ospreys and apologise.
Hopefully good news on Bynack soon
