I offered yesterday to start a new Topic once Bynack had fledged, but as we now have the updated Satellite Tracking page, and biography pages for Tore and Bynack, and there are some tracking results for Tore on Google Earth, I’ve gone ahead with it.
A brief introduction to the ospreys we’re tracking – first, the class of 2011.
Tore – link to her Biography
Tore is the elder of this year’s juveniles, her ring is blue/white 48. She fledged on Tuesday 12th July aged 54 days, and has started to do a little exploring.
Bynack – link to his Biography
Tore’s younger brother, ring blue/white 47. Bynack is aged 53 days today and has yet to fledge.
Edit: He has fledged, at 10.18 am today 16/7.
Rothes – link to her Biography
Rothes is the eldest of EJ and Odin’s offspring, hatched at Loch Garten in 2009. Her ring is white/black PJ. She migrated as a juvenile to Guinea-Bissau, and spent her formative months on the small island of Unhocomozinho, in the Bijagos Archipelago. Now a sub-adult, she has travelled north to Europe for the first time this summer and is currently in the Gironde estuary in SW France, where she also spent 6 weeks on her way south in 2009. So far, she has not returned to the UK.
Rothes' earlier travels were followed in this thread, now closed.
Looks a lot better in this photo Alan, so maybe he has been fishing, lets hope so.
EJ's Memorial Balgavies Loch Ospreys 2023
This is fantastic to be able to see where the ospreys have passed over, stopped to look at on their travels. I keep a holiday diary and put in postcards and pictures and railway tickets tram tickets restaurant receipts etc. This record is just like that! Brilliant.
Thank you MARY - you've encouraged me
. Hi there DAISY RAY
Yes it certainly looks HEAPS better than GE thank you very much ALAN
Oh must get on, so much to do before tomorrow.... but will be back later to see what I have missed - hmmm talked about "hooked".....
Please don't think I'm equating Edinburgh to Hell - it's a beautiful city (well, like all cities, some of it), it's just the crowds I couldn't face.
I presume I'd better go to the tracking thread to ask for details of Tore's semi-visit to south London - if only she'd let me know she was coming! :'(
IMAGICAT
Looks like a lot goes on at Polderwind:
Scylla, that's the detail for you. Tore flying across... Bromley, I think? ... which is in the south (east) of London but probably not called "South London" by British people (I do not really know, but I'm afraid "South London" is a set name for a very special part of London, so I may have confused you by using it in a much broader sense)
Cats and women will do as they please. Dogs and men should relax and get used to it.
Bromley is in the county of Kent, but Greater London is swallowing up the outlying towns.
I'm in southwest London, I was hoping Tore might have flown overhead, or over somewhere I recognised. Thank you for trying, Alex :-)
What borough are you in then SCYLLA ? If you don't mind my asking. (or whatever it's called) How long have you lived in London (I suppose I'm asking if you are a Londoner) :)
While Mallachie, if I remember, made a speciality of overflying British prisons, Tore is definitely collecting RSPB reserves! First South Stack Cliffs on Holyhead, then Minsmere.......and in Alex's screenshot of SE London above, the "point" shown is directly over Rainham Marshes reserve.
