Morning all: Happy new week.
MARGO: Welcome back!! :-))
Wendy: Thanks for keeping us up to date on Margo's Big Adventure.
dibnlib: How nice to bump into Margo et al.
Lindybird: Yes, June Gloom highly predictable; if you know of anyone planning to come to California in June, tell them not to expect beach weather, but can be pretty hot away from the coast. Re new dark countertops that don't show dirt, have been horrified to find globs of dried up sticky stuff on ours; now have to bend over and catch the light on the surface to see what needs to be scrubbed.
Diane: Only four feet from a deer? Wow. Pretty impressive, especially after looking at the pix! Maybe whistle a happy tune or put bells on your shoes next time?
Jay-Me: Vacation time sounds nice and relaxing!
Lynette: Thanks for clarifying which part of you is hurting! :-) Nice that all your furniture is finally set up; now enjoy it.
OK, off to fix dinner; back later.
It seems that people want to know about the car in ditch story! :)
Well we Chloe and I had been told by this visitor at our B&B that if we took this very small mountain road we would come to a lovely beauty spot.
We decided to investigate on the afternoon of Friday June 3 which was a lovely sunny day.
The road was one of those that you do not want to meet something coming in the opposite direction. Well we met this big 4x4 and Chloe reversed a bit and pulled in to let it go by. I felt our front left wheel slip a bit but was not unduly concerned. Anyway the driver of the 4x4 gave us a wave and all seemed well.
However as soon as we tried move forward the left front wheel began to spin (front wheel drive).
Rather than let the situation escalate I decided to get out and give the car a push (less weight more drive). This freed the car immediately but I got covered in mud.
Anyway crisis over. It was caused by there being a ditch just beside the left front wheel of the car.
In pictures it looked like this
Not sure what would have happened if we had not freed it when we did.

OG, There has been no change in Sister-in-law behaviour. She sounds so normal and cheerful on the phone but her OH is still worried that she has no interest in the house or garden. He shops for food, but she gets very upset if he buys something that needs cooking, even though he wants to cook the meal. They seem to be living on pre cooked supermarket chicken / salad and frozen dishes. I think I previously mentioned that she is an excellent cook and loves gardening. She won't travel far from their house and now visits the doctor for the least thing. I have asked them to stay with us but she always finds a reason for not travelling but wants us to keep visiting her. We can only hope, that her GP is keeping her eye on her as they seem to talk a lot, when SiL has an appointment. I have asked her OH to go and have a talk with the GP.
AQ The picture that I was suggesting you emulate is one of the analemma Not many pictures of the analemma have been taken and to my knowledge every last one of them have been made north of the equator. The prize of being first to photograph the analemma in the southern hemisphere is still up for grabs as far as I am aware.
No need to rush but here are the instructions.
Good morning to everyone and thanks for the news and pics.
Yesteday left home at about 0700 and drove to Mums. Forgot that The Royal Highland Show was on so traffic pretty heavy approaching Edn. Left Mums at about 6. 20 and still hadn't crossed the bridge an hour later (usually takes about 20 mins) Arrived home at 10 o'clock. Luckily Dillon loves the car and is a good passenger. We couldn't have done that with Fingal as he did not like the car one bit. We never figured out why.
Hi folks, thought I'd be without a connection as OH is taking his old computer to a local firm who are going to build him a new one. He dismantled all last night ready to take over this afternoon and I thought, Oh No, I won't be able to communicate. However, after a bit of thought I realised I might be able to put the Netgear connection in my laptop - hey presto - I have communication again.
Thanks for your news etc.
Tiger and Chloe - I have at last connected the two - am I right - you are a couple!!
Brenda - Sorry to hear about your SiL and her OH. He really is having a tough time with her health problems. Have they diagnosed anything. Has she had a virus or knock which may have affected her? It sounds awful for OH to be living on pre-prepared meals etc espcially as she used to like cooking and gardening. Do hope that a solution can be found to the situation before it goes on too long and that your SiL can return to full health again - If I have missed a previous note about this then I apologise it I sound insensitive, I don't mean to be.
Dibnib- glad you were able to visit your mum, it was always nice to be able to do so.
I've decided that we will go out for more meals this year. OH doesn't like driving in the dark when we are over there so we tend to find places not too far away from where we are staying, hopefully there will be one or two. We are not too far from Agincourt and if I remember rightly there was a nice resteraunt/cafe there.

Must go and get some lunch, back later.
Afternoon all,
Sheila and TerryM: Thanks for all the holiday pics. Wonderful scenery.
AQ : Not sure what to make of the bears either.
Tiger/ChloeB: It's amazing that 4 x 4 drivers always expect you to give way when they have the cars with off road capability.
Thanks to everyone else for the chat and pics.
This morning we went to Barnwell CP to check out the swans. all 8 cygnets are doing well. Lady P also saw a kingfisher from the hide. Unfortunately I missed it as I was taking a pic of a nesting Grebe at the time. We also saw a Green Woodpecker there today.

We had our visit from Son & Wife, with lots of baby equipment in tow, for Sweetpea - they are en route to Glasgow for a Wedding tomorrow, and want to make a bit of a long weekend of it, so will be returning here on Monday to have lunch with us on the way home again (to Droitwich). Tonight they stay in Carlisle, so that they don't have too far to go on their way to said wedding. We had lots of cuddles with Baby whilst they were here for a brief coffee & wee break, and a chat with Son, who is once again changing jobs as he has had a really good offer to do a 6 month contract. This will involve him living away from home for 4 days a week, but he is very keen & hopes that maybe it will lead to a full time job there eventually. (in which case they will have to move, but it will be even further away from us :-(( )
I'm dashing off out again, now, as I donate blood, & need to do some shopping, so will come back on here tomorow.
LYNETTE We enjoy going out to eat and nearly always lunch rather than dinner out. It is usually a good deal cheaper and with more managable portion sizes. Wonder if it is the same in France.
Quck post - family arriving for weekend - or some of them, 6 children and OHs, plus 8 grandchildren plus OH and I = 22. Best will in the world, can't put them all up at the same time! Thanks for your messages to margo. OG- had a chuckle, you are probably right about the weather, my garden diary usually focussed (don't keep it any more) on the bad and never the good! What does that say about me? :-)) We often go abroad first two weeks in June - not this year - and so many times I have come home to plants suffering from cold + wind damage, beans not making much of an effort etc etc. OH agrees with you though, this June has been the worst. Geraniums he put out three weeks ago and also begonias have been severely checked by the weather and my runner beans are not thanking me for transplanting them. Thanks to all for pics and posts, now off to do a mega shop.
