I have decided to start this thread for discussing technical issues that come up rather than messing up the other threads.
I guess the first issue seems to be pasting Word text into posting boxes.
Recently we have had three threads lockup up as a result of posts involving Word text.

You can use Allen keys to open it and take it apart. Then smash up the disks.
NO ONE will read it then :)

Yes Chloe having a break now, but OH been googling the internet all day for solutions as well, will have one more go before bedtime and then tomorrow we may have to see if we can find a Computer shop to see if it can be saved. I am shattered, a wreck now LOL!!!!

Lol but people think they have deleted files but they can always be recovered unless you drill holes in it and smack with a sledge hammer. Dropping it and throwing it I do not think will work :)
I understand completely how frustrating and stressful it can be and do sympathise with you both Mary.
Mary, I hope you get it sorted and do not give up as too many precious things to lose
Many years ago (like over 20) I this same problem. I seem to remember forcing the bad sectors and the drive lasted another eight years.

ChloeB said: forcing the bad sectors What do you mean by this Tiger? [/quote] To be honest I did not think too much about it. I think it is basically taching the computer to ignore damaged sectors. In the days when I used to back up my "enormous" hard drive on floppy disks (or more likley diskettes...I once paid £3.50 per diskette) I used to use a program called PCTools. A very handy programme which allowed you to examine the health of the disk. Tiger Signature

I hesitate to ask but how much did these £3.50 diskettes hold?
