Technical Test Thread

I have decided to start this thread for discussing technical issues that come up rather than messing up the other threads.

I guess the first issue seems to be pasting Word text into posting boxes.

Recently we have had three threads lockup up as a result of posts involving Word text.

  • You only need to copy the YouTube URL from the address bar into a NON-rich-formatting posting space.  It took me ages to realise it could be that simple, I was right-clicking on the video itself and getting it from there, having waited until it was actually playing.  I often forget, in rich formatting, to add the [View etc so have to edit to add it on.

Teehee, that's the unmistakable "Bynack's last visit @ 1132hr" dear lamb.

Haha scylla, glad you spotted me here ;-)   You got what I was up to with the vid clip.  While it was not playing in your post, in FF, I right-clicked and got 'Copy embed html' which I pasted and hence my commentary above.  The URL only seems to come up at end of playing vid or if vid is watched in YT when it appears in address bar.

Incidentally I have now answered my question about post deletion BUT, it's scaryPosted 'aa' to test, then a Red cross appeared to delete post.  This lead/led to dialogue box which was funny...it said... "Since this post has no replies no children will be deleted."  EEK, I'd better be careful what I do!!! ;-D

ps I was testing a slideshow of stills obtained from that vid in case it might have helped in the Bynack or not question.  That investigation took some time but I have learnt a lotPerhaps, if you didn't mind, I could message you with the odd technical help query?  I'm currently trying to make a collage like you do in Photobucket to post those stills but a slideshow would be better.  Cheers, tBoL :-)

  • Testing scylla's suggestion of posting URL in non-rich format mode....

    Here goes....tBoL

ps of course, now I am editing my post, Rich format options are now on!  I am going to paste in the embed HTML info to see what happens......>>>>>

    <object width="640" height="390"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/hBVE1y2ukes&hl=en_US&feature=player_embedded&version=3"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/hBVE1y2ukes&hl=en_US&feature=player_embedded&version=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="390"></embed></object>

    Now to post this edit...>>>

Extra EDIT... scylla, I see the Left square bracket View: etc Right square bracket add-ons you mentioned and also that Tiger has posted during all this testing :-) The square brackets and 'view' seem to create some kind of link hence I have now edited and written out the words for them...Whoooo, what an experiment!!! ;-)

  • A problem in my post above was that typing "left square bracket, colon, right square bracket" totally disappeared when the post was, um, posted ;-D

Re "was it Bynack?", I had 2 similar videos, one of which, a very long one IIRC, contained Odin in a similar position to the 1132hr bird, and I was pausing thru them both to try to get the birds in an exactly similar position... but I ran out of steam and fell asleep.  Oh, the tension of it!  And then I lost the Odin one and just cannot get the energy to track it down again, can't even remember what it was called :-(

Even if I'd completed it, there's lighting to consider, which gives the  feathers different shadings.

  • Re: IIRC in above post.... stands for 'I Instruct Roman Catholics' if I remember correctly?? ;-) :-D

  • I need a catalogue of kml files for all the available tracked birds, rather than start a new thead, this seems as good a place as any. I have only two and need the finnish?, swediish and welsh ones and any others that we have.

My GE has two for LG for some reason, it had three, but I deleted a duplicate. Also I recently added Rutland.

Does anyone know where the second one came from?

    LG kml is.....

    Rutland kml is  .......

Now all I need are the others so if you can access them via GE, that is probably the easiest, thanks.

  • Hi jsb, I don't have a catalogue of kml files but I too would like to have data to follow all the other birds on GE.

My installation of GE is shown below..I don't have the kml files shown as you do, but only shown via right-clicking properties....>>

I'm not sure where I saw someone mentioning about zooming on GE. At low level the view automatically tilts and enters ground level view. This was annoying to me and I've just found the solution. See the image below which refers to settings in Tools, Options, Navigation. I can now zoom in to ground with no tilt. Cheers

  • That's very useful, Badgie - glad I popped in to see what you were up to ;-D
