Weekly Chat, Sunday 8 May 2011

Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers. I hope you all have a great day.

Do check back to last week's chat for OG's gorgeous wildflower garden pics And Lynette's pics of Dunedin & Hampton eaglets.

Linda - I love your pics of Tatton Park, especially autumn.

Alan  -24 handbags!!!! Must be related to our Dau#2 who collects shoes & handbags. Me, I have one all-purpose go-everywhere shoulder bag. Plus the gold one OH gave me decades ago and saw the light of day at the weddings.

Brenda, Linda, Lynette, Joan, OG - On my first trip o/s I had a list of what to take. It helps remind me not to forget vital things like eye drops, film (nowadays it is memory cards & battery charger!). When I returned I noted what I didn’t use and now I check the amended list, pruning every trip. Why drag excess around? Invariably my room in B&Bs was on 2nd or3 rd floor. Besides I may buy things, such as jumpers - that’s my weakness. Stupid really because I knit them and the wardrobe is bursting. So, OG, I shall choose one of them. And camera almost lives in said all-purpose bag!

Joan - I heard a story of a local teacher who had 7 children in her class named "Amy" but all spelled differently.

  • Wendy   We used to have a cat like that nearly 40 years ago.

What Olympic tickets have you applied for?

    I have applied for:

    1. Opening ceremony

    2. Closing ceremony

3  Session with the 100m final

    I will probably get none.

  • Tiger - aren't those likely to be the three most popular sessions?  I think Wendy said she applied for day 2 &3 of Three Day Eventing - Cross-Country and Show-Jumping.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Og: She is not my cat and I won't have another one. She lives next door with the farmers grandaughter that I took for that walk today. When she moved back from Jedbrugh(?) seven years ago her youngest daughter fell in love with my cat Lucy and they got Tiger..(.I extended her name to make it more girlie). She came from a rescue charity because her owner a farmer passed away. She settled in really well and was a real hunter. She has always been aloof but as I am around more have seen a great change in her this year. She must be at least 16 and she rarely hunts and sometime seems a bit vague.Lucy my last cat had dementia and it was really upsetting to see the change in her. There is so much going on next door...work children dogs and life in general Tiger was finding it hard to find peace. It all came to a head 2 weeks ago when she was in my garden crying...so opened a tin of tuna and then a second tin and she seemed happier.

A short conversation with neighbour and she realised that Tiger needed more care. So she took her to the vets and has had some tests and it looks as though her kidneys are failing. As Tiger spends quiet time in my garden under her favorite bamboo she gets peace from the dogs and like tonight if neighbour is late home after doing " children stuff" and I open my back door and Tiger comes running I know it is time to open a satchet of food. I am not treading on any toes and Tiger is really happy.

We lost Lucys brother from kidney failiure so at least we can keep an on Tiger and give our neighbour any help she needs.

  • Are you feeling, like me, that we are all drawing even closer because we feel our group is threatened?  A bit like starliings gathering at dusk!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • OG: We will be fine it will be private like face book but a lot more friendly:-))

  • Wendy - sorry, in your first mention of Tiger Lily it seemed you had fully adopted her!  That is so wonderful that she can come to you when she needs peace and comfort in her old age - well done.

And now I really must give up waiting to hear from Lindy tonight, and get myself off to bed!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Tiger: My daughter has an eventer so we have apllied for:

2nd day of the 3 day event which is cross country

3rd day of the 3 day event which is show jumping and medal ceremony

    We can live in hope.

OG That is true but you only live once. If I really want to go to less popular events there are chances later.

Just saw this stunning picture of the Blackwater eagles. WOW.

And a wow wow wow.  From photo of the day on FB.

  • Jay me wrote - I'm hoping to visit Bodnant Garden next week as well as Portmeirion & Glaslyn - all new places for me.  I think it was Tiger who said I seemed to be a fan of Welsh ospreys - it is just that they are slightly nearer for me to visit, plus going to visit my sister you drive right past the new osprey centre at Dyfi.3-

Jay me you'll love that part of the world, it is so lovely in the Snodownia area. Had many a family holiday at a coastal resort in my youth (Abergele).  Enjoy!!

Tiger - posted a pic re Montana Bay last night, probably right the ospreys may not return there but it will be interesting to see if they do.

Thanks for all your news updates, night night, back in the morning.

  • Evening all:

First off, I want to thank so many of you for doing the legwork on the "friends" front. I was planning to sit down tonight or tomorrow - sometime before I left on my trip - and send friend requests, but all the work's been done for me!  I think it's safe to say we're all friends, regardless of whether we're on each other's pages or not, and always ready to help out when the technology acts up. I'd say there's very little chance we'll lose touch with anyone given all the newly formalized connections!  I do hope the switch over goes smoothly.....

Another busy day; daughter brought grandson down for dentist appointment and to have his surgical scar checked - he's 95% healed now; just one more visit to the nurse to sign him off. Saw the funniest thing today; pulled into the driveway to see a tiny bird trying to organize a feather! It was a regular wing feather and the bird kept picking it up and dropping it and picking it up and fussing with it, then dropping it again; never seen that before; went on for quite a few minutes until another bird ran (yes, ran) up to see what was going on and the first bird ran off with the feather before dropping it and running farther away. Maybe the feather came from the bird that was fussing with it. Very amusing...

Lynette: Good luck choosing someone for the new heating system. Lovely photos of chicks there...

Sheila: I'll be taking my laptop with me and will check in when I get the chance; it'll be interesting to see how the software update progresses. Yes, lots of baby cuddles on the agenda. :-)

Alan: Can you rent a doggie wheelchair for Hamish?

Wendy: Adopted aged cat? Assume that's Tiger Lily (gorgeous!)? Margobird will want to compare notes....

Jay-Me: Christmas cards already? How organized. I don't make them and I'm still always doing it at the last minute.

Tiger/Wendy: Good luck with your Olympic choices.

Tiger: Judging from the fog, that could be the Golden Gate Bridge.

OG: Indeed - we're circling the wagons here on the chat page! :-))

bettyboo: St. Ives is in a lovely part of the country. Lucky you.

Have a good Friday all!  And if I miss anyone leaving on a trip - be safe and have a wonderful time.
