Afternoon all: Geez. May already? This happens every year!

Sitting in garden with laptop! Under umbrella in shorts and trying to ID a pale pink hybrid rose I didn't think I'd bought but which is now blooming like mad. I went out to buy orange/apricot/peach and yellow roses and have no idea how this pale pink one got into the mix. Also, it doesn't have a little metal label, which the others do, and I'm wondering if it didn't get into the wrong bin at La Sumida, where I bought six bare roots. In the meantime, Amber Flower Carpet and Julia Child roses are doing brilliantly...  Met friends for breakfast this morning: Had a egg-white and seasonal veggie mix - won't make that mistake again! Very boring and challenging since nothing stayed on my fork. Was forced to rectify the situation with a cafe au lait and a boysenberry and lemon scone!

Diane: I have a visor and a sweathshirt with a hood that I wear on windy days at the whale count. That's it! Daughter has several cowboy hats, including one with a woven decorative band she made from hair taken from Cimarron's tail (the horse she had to put down Feb 10). I'll check out Trucker Steve next.

Alicat: Bet you had fun with Bobbie. Have you sorted your naughty OH yet? :-)

Wendy: Dolphin visit sounds like fun.

Sheila: Argh! Take care of that knee. Geez. A 1.5 hour wait for food? Did everyone complain loudly?  Apparently, several of our channels repeated the wedding video throughout the day yesterday; I'm watching the recording a bit at a time; can't stand to be inside on a lovely day.

OG: More fab azaleas! Good news that son is trying the part-time option; hope it works out for him. Really understand "more money than sense," which also applies to grandson who, sad to say, doesn't have much money, so .....! Still, he's young yet and as always, we live in hopes. Little vole looks awfully sweet.

Hallo also to Lynette. It's past 4; can now officially start new Weekly Chat!

  • Hello Everybody: Another dry sunny but windy day up here on Speyside. Everywhere is bone dry the garden borders are like a desert. The farmer is a bit grumpy as is grass isn't growing so his cattle are still in it also means his silage his going to be in short supply. We were at Chanonry Point the other day and could see the fire behind Inverness. Not surprised at the fire on Dava Moor as that looked very dry when we drove across the other day.

O.G: When you are up take that left turn and go across to Lochindord, some of it is a passing places only but traffic is very light. When you pick up the road at the end it is a left turn to Carrbridge or right to pick up the Nairn Forres road.

A nice walk with the girl next door and her 2 dogs acroos the river and up in the hills. Spotted an Osprey as we crossed and she was more excited than me. She is my farmers daughter and lived here on and off for 36 years and it is the first one she has seen around here.

O.G: Pretty sure your son saw an Osprey on his trip to Aberlour the other day as coming back from getting paper and milk I spotted one on the bendy bit (I think you will know where I mean).

Poor Hamish...good to get it sorted before your holiday. It is always the way as daughters Daisy has just had a bladder infection, soon sorted with antibiotics and as she is off to Turkey on Friday that is a good thing. Daisy is off to the kennels andi It will be her first long (7 days) stay although she went to day creche to see if she and the kennel owners were going to get on.

She is not normally a photogenic dog, tends to look down as you click. So the nose picture took a bucket load of popcorn...her all time favorite treat.

  • The 3 chicks for Aria and Vento in Rome are getting big. The 4th egg failed to hatch:

  • Just thought you might like to see bobbies first weekend out and about the three below are taken at bridlington on sunday didn't have camera with me  for her first walk on saturday

and this one is taken yesterday(monday) at york

  • Nice photos of wee Bobbie Alicat.  He obviously enjoyed his outing.

Alan, wow those peregrine chicks have grown.  It must be quite daunting fledging from up there!  Poor Hamish, no wonder he was limping and feeling sorry for himself.  He must be such a good tempered boy to cope with it all.  I will be thinking of him (and you!) on Friday.

TerryM I'm not quite sure when you begin our travels in the Outer Hebrides, but do hope you have a lovely time.  Perhaps by then the winds will be more prevailing, but in any case from what I remember the islands are fairly flat.    I'm looking forward to hearing the  tales of your adventure!

Lovely to see both Dillon and Toffee again and a very smart looking Clover

Diane & Annette the new of the killing of bin Laden is indeed a mixed blessing  I suspect he was no longer the leading light, but more a symbol and I fear for repurcussions.

Diane may thanks for the interesting links.  Those whales look absolutely enormous and could certainly do damage, albeit perhaps unintentionally.

DjoanS I hope you are getting used to your new laptop.  Any changes ib system or hardware I find I am so at getting used to, and then I wonder why when it comes to a replacement!  All we need now is the sound on the nest!

Nice to 'see' you OG.  A splendid sculpture accompanying you!

Lynette I wa sorry to hear of your OH's condition.  It doesn't sound very nice, but I hope the doctor can advise well.

Cirrus you mention folk we haven't 'seen' lately - another I would love to hear from again is Kelloggs, from Cape Breton Island.  I wonder how she is.

Hmm, so the fox in the garden sneaking under the hedge was one thing.  But in broad daylight in the sunshine just after breakfast this morning to appear on the grass between me (in the kitchen) and the ground feeder, and a cock pheasant not five feet away from him, is another.  The fox didn't seem intend on the bird, but you never know.  It stood looking at me before it turned and ran!  I threw out some old frozen blackberries yesterday thinking the blackbirds might like them, but I think the fox found them yesterday and that is why he returned.  I must be careful about what I put out in future.  As nice as it was to see it, I don't want to encourage them in the garden with all the birds, eggs and young around at the moment!

How long will you be in Wales, Alan?  So sorry Hamish needs yet more visits to the vet but I think dogs suffer vets better than cats do.  Which part of Wales are you visiting? I’m sure Ospreys will figure somewhere :)  Great pic of the lesser spotted and peregrines btw.

Oh dear, Lynette. I am very sorry OH is suffering so and do hope it isn’t likely to become anything worse.  I understand it can be a very painful thing to have so I do hope OH is not in great pain.

How nice for your friend, Wendy, to spot that Osprey. I certainly sympathize with the farmer. These things always have a knock on effect.

Just wonderful pictures of Bobbie , Alicat – what a little darling she is.

  • Wow wow wow. An osprey nest with a difference. See   Montana osprey cam.

Very odd looking osprey baby . Two even.

  • Tiger:  I can hardly believe that Osprey would wait around patiently for a Canada Goose to fledge her chicks LoL. Whatever next ?

  • Tiger: That's remarkable! I hope it's a win-win situation for ospreys and geese. Hope all of them can fledge healthy offspring!

  • Alicat : Lovely pics of Bobbie.

Cirrus : We will be in North Wales for a week. Definately be visiting Glaslyn for the 5th consecutive year and maybe Dyfi as well. We rent a little cottage near Betws-y-coed.

There is an egg at Nauvo:

  • I can't get the osprey, just a Canada Goose and the cam keeps going off the nest. Is it me being thick? Where did you get the osprey Tiger? LOL sorry, it is me being thick. For a minute I thought that was an osprey's back but it is the goose! :))

Ignore me, had a busy and eventful day :)
