Weekly Chat, Sunday, May 1 2011

Afternoon all: Geez. May already? This happens every year!

Sitting in garden with laptop! Under umbrella in shorts and trying to ID a pale pink hybrid rose I didn't think I'd bought but which is now blooming like mad. I went out to buy orange/apricot/peach and yellow roses and have no idea how this pale pink one got into the mix. Also, it doesn't have a little metal label, which the others do, and I'm wondering if it didn't get into the wrong bin at La Sumida, where I bought six bare roots. In the meantime, Amber Flower Carpet and Julia Child roses are doing brilliantly...  Met friends for breakfast this morning: Had a egg-white and seasonal veggie mix - won't make that mistake again! Very boring and challenging since nothing stayed on my fork. Was forced to rectify the situation with a cafe au lait and a boysenberry and lemon scone!

Diane: I have a visor and a sweathshirt with a hood that I wear on windy days at the whale count. That's it! Daughter has several cowboy hats, including one with a woven decorative band she made from hair taken from Cimarron's tail (the horse she had to put down Feb 10). I'll check out Trucker Steve next.

Alicat: Bet you had fun with Bobbie. Have you sorted your naughty OH yet? :-)

Wendy: Dolphin visit sounds like fun.

Sheila: Argh! Take care of that knee. Geez. A 1.5 hour wait for food? Did everyone complain loudly?  Apparently, several of our channels repeated the wedding video throughout the day yesterday; I'm watching the recording a bit at a time; can't stand to be inside on a lovely day.

OG: More fab azaleas! Good news that son is trying the part-time option; hope it works out for him. Really understand "more money than sense," which also applies to grandson who, sad to say, doesn't have much money, so .....! Still, he's young yet and as always, we live in hopes. Little vole looks awfully sweet.

Hallo also to Lynette. It's past 4; can now officially start new Weekly Chat!

  • Diane: Dang! Missed Steve in New Mexico, but he'll be passing 30 miles or so north of granddaughter on I-40.

  • Lynette – we don’t seem to have ground elder here – I remember my Dad having a constant battle with it in Berkshire, and later in Somerset, and we had it in Essex and a bit in Yorkshire, but I don’t remember it since then.

Annette – thanks for the new week.  Pleased you were enjoying the garden, and that the Roses are doing well.  Are you sure the pink Rose isn’t one which you won at the Rose Club one evening?  Breakfast didn’t sound interesting - until you reached the coffee and scone!  Thought Steve’s route looked near to your GrandDaughter in AZ – he is heading west, but stopping short of you!

We are also heading west today – to Wigtown for just one event in their Spring Festival – a talk on Life in Mediaeval Scotland by a very good historian who is usually quite entertaining.  Shall visit the Osprey room whilst there, and maybe something good on the way home this afternoon.  So now to get hosed down and ready to go.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Mistakenly put these on last weeks so some people may see them twice. this is our pics from canal walk yest aft

  • Hello, Everyone:   Thanks to Annette for starting off the week again  - May?  May??  Can this be?  what happened??  (Actually its my Eldests birthday, and he is in Paris with Girlfriend, so hope they are having the same sunny weather as here)

Lovely sunny cheerful pics from dibnlib - looks like you enjoyed your walk.

That scone sounded good Annette - hope you are feeling better now.  Was very concerned to hear how awful the bad weather has been in USA, and so sorry for those who have lost their homes, or even their lives.  Hope the government steps in quickly to help those with nothing left.  We seem to be having some extremes of weather around the world lately.

OG:  Enjoy the Spring Festival talk.   Thanks for the link to the loose horse - I'd heard it mentioned , but knew nothing about it.

Had a delightful day yesterday at Sons - sat in the garden with d.in.law & Baby Sweetpea:  it was sunny enough to sit out, but very breezy.  This hampered the work of OH and Son, who spent most of the day putting a new felt roof on their shed:  much hammering and passing of nails to and fro!  A delicious cold lunch in the middle of the work, and lots of cups of tea to keep everyone fuelled up.  Tomasz is now smiling with a big toothless grin at anyone who holds him, and is a happy baby.  (nearly 5 months already).  Son has settled into his new job now, and is still taking Training Days to keep up with their systems.

Sun is out here, again - though it is windy.  We are off to the Garden Centre - so hope you all have a pleasant Day.

  • Morning all! :)

I've decided to come out as a lurker, to thank you all for videos, pics and informative snippets of info, I've enjoyed going through the threads and learning more about these wonderful birds! I'm quite addicted to the webcam, hope the sound gets restored! It was fab hearing the range of calls and squeaks in the first week or so. I occassionally see an osprey hunting on my commute to work, needless to say I'm generally late for work on those days!

Have a lovely Sunday, what fantastic weather! :)

    Lesley

  • ANNETTE  Never heard of Boysenberry   What do they taste like.

OG  Lucky you seeing Vernon, thanks for pic.

ALICAT  Glad you have had Bobbie out for first walk. Always a bit of a nightmare with my Goldies out into the big Spaces for the first time. Didn't take long before they were pestering to get out and about in those big open spaces again.

  • Hello Ms Tree and welcome to the weekly threads!  How lovely to see ospreys on your way to work - such a diversion!!  We have a lovely time chatting about all things from Royal Weddings to consoling or encouraging each other on this thread - a friendship thread I think!.  There is also a dedicated thread on the daily events on the nest so feel free to drop into either.  You will also find various other wonderful threads on migration, on sightings of osprey in the UK etc, and all of these can be found on: http://www.rspb.org.uk/community/groups/lochgartenospreys/forum  - sorry, but my links are not live, you will have to copy and past to your browser.  Enjoy.
