Afternoon all: Geez. May already? This happens every year!
Sitting in garden with laptop! Under umbrella in shorts and trying to ID a pale pink hybrid rose I didn't think I'd bought but which is now blooming like mad. I went out to buy orange/apricot/peach and yellow roses and have no idea how this pale pink one got into the mix. Also, it doesn't have a little metal label, which the others do, and I'm wondering if it didn't get into the wrong bin at La Sumida, where I bought six bare roots. In the meantime, Amber Flower Carpet and Julia Child roses are doing brilliantly... Met friends for breakfast this morning: Had a egg-white and seasonal veggie mix - won't make that mistake again! Very boring and challenging since nothing stayed on my fork. Was forced to rectify the situation with a cafe au lait and a boysenberry and lemon scone!
Diane: I have a visor and a sweathshirt with a hood that I wear on windy days at the whale count. That's it! Daughter has several cowboy hats, including one with a woven decorative band she made from hair taken from Cimarron's tail (the horse she had to put down Feb 10). I'll check out Trucker Steve next.
Alicat: Bet you had fun with Bobbie. Have you sorted your naughty OH yet? :-)
Wendy: Dolphin visit sounds like fun.
Sheila: Argh! Take care of that knee. Geez. A 1.5 hour wait for food? Did everyone complain loudly? Apparently, several of our channels repeated the wedding video throughout the day yesterday; I'm watching the recording a bit at a time; can't stand to be inside on a lovely day.
OG: More fab azaleas! Good news that son is trying the part-time option; hope it works out for him. Really understand "more money than sense," which also applies to grandson who, sad to say, doesn't have much money, so .....! Still, he's young yet and as always, we live in hopes. Little vole looks awfully sweet.
Hallo also to Lynette. It's past 4; can now officially start new Weekly Chat!
We'll probably get more details on how they did it over the next few hours, days, weeks, at least as much as they want to tell us....
Apparently, we conducted the operation inside Pakistan.
Yes, he was living in a mansion yet! I immediately Googled the town Abbotabad (apparently an affluent community for retired military), but nobody's pinpointed the area yet!
Evening all: Well, after watching the news about Bin Landen, now sitting down to watch the last hour of my recording of The Wedding,
Ms Tree: Welcome! We blather about all kinds of stuff on this thread (including ospreys. Seen any monsters on your commute lately? :-)
OG: That pink rose definitely not the one from the Rose Society meeting - that's doing nicely in a pot on the patio. A talk on Medieval Scotland? My OH would be there like a shot! I'm halfway through Mary Queen of Scots and the Murder of Lord Darnley (another Alison Weir book). Interesting to hear how life was good - assume you mean people grew their own food, worked hard and hopefully stayed healthy (was it warmer then?) Is your son who preached the one who's taken the part-time job or the other one? Sorry, can't remember.
dinblib: More lovely shots - looks very peaceful. Isn't spring wonderful. A boysenberry is a cross between a blackberry, a raspberry, and a loganberry.
Diane: Interesting about Beltane and Bannocks - sounds like Devon Clotted Cream would go well with those raspeberry preserves. Yum!
Lindybird: April (or May) in Paris sounds wonderful. My friend and her OH are going there in two weeks; they've rented an apartment in the city, then they're heading to Normandy (he was in the Marines) to see the military cemeteries. Glad you had a good time with the family; won't be long before Tomasz has some teeth to show off! I'm feeling better, but still not 100%; OH has caught my runny nose (he didn't have to chase it far).
Alan: Those are rubber duckies, right? Assume they aren't the ones that broke free of a container ship off Hawaii years ago and found their way to the UK? I remember Henry Cooper!
Sheila: Pheasant antics sound amusing. Seems like the new male on the block can't take a hint if the girls are running away!
Sandy: Spoke to my sister in the UK this morning and she says everyone's convinced this is your summer (hope not).
Gosh, should really take a shower and wash my hair tonight but it's already 10! Better bustle off....
Geez Diane: I just searched for Bin Laden's Mansion Abbottabad on Google Earth, and it was there! (No Street View though). :-)
Annette: Oh, my stars. Already?
I'll catch up with everyone else tomorrow. Going to bed and watch the news.
ANNETTE my Grandparents grew Loganberries and I just loved them. Impossible to find them now. If anyone can help please let me know. Hopefully now Dillon right way up, just wish he wasn't barking.
Just thinking about dogs and water. Fingal (put to rest in March 2007 at the age of 13 yrs and 8 months and diagnosed with Lymphoma) used to get in the water and swim until he had to get out. Remember losing him because he was swimming close to bank under all the undergrowth. Dillon is an in and out swimmer. Don't think he has the confidence that Fingal had. Funny story with Fingal on the banks of the canal. He was just about to dive in for a swim when he was met by Mother duck with 4 babes. she was not happy and gave him a good quacking and he backed off PBQ (pretty d*** quick) So funny to see this large Goldie giving way to a tiny Mum Duck
Good Morning Everyone: Not time to read all of the above yet, but here are your Monday Smiles for this week:
FIRST, A MOBILE PHONE FOR THE OLDER AMONGST US:
NEXT, A GRAPH OF HOW I SPEND MY DAY, DONT KNOW ABOUT YOU !!!
- Have a good day!
My parents grew loganberries, dibnlib. They were delicious!
Sad to hear that the gentleman who was a fighter, Sir Henry Cooper, has died. He was well loved because he was such a nice guy.
The News here is all about Bin Laden this morning, there are no other stories at all. It is a major victory, but they will still be operating, as only one arm of the monster has been chopped off. I hope there will not be any possible awful reprisals in the West.
Glad to hear that Annette is recovering, but not surprised that her OH has caught it now, too. Hope its short lived for both of you.
Sun is shining brightly here, but there is still a cold wind. We are doing major clean up of our back porch today, its the one full of old wellies, bird feed/feeders, dog walking coats and flowerpots etc. Have to have OH with me to protect me from the dreaded Huge Spiders which always appear when you move stuff. Ugh! Also planting out into the garden, several pots of tulips which have failed to flower this spring - perhaps they will do better in the ground.
