Happy Easter to all

Alan says. . . . Another hot day. Even hotter than yesterday with the temp now 24.8c .
Hey Alan - Hot????? We call that "mild". Today expecting 23C here, currently 22.6C.

I have some catching up to do. My apologies to those whose questions I’ve not answered.

Sheila says AQ . . . . I love your travelogue! You are so descriptive and your photos are lovely too. I take it you have an interest in churches. Is this from an historical perspective, or architectural?
Sheila - Both really. I like old things and I love the stonework and shape of old churches. I don’t go into it too deeply. Couldn’t name the styles.

OG says AQ . . . . Oh dear! Sorry the paint saga doesn’t have a happy ending. Is it just reflecting the colour of the carpet?
OG - We thought at first it was just the reflection but we have laid a quite red Turkish mat across one end and paint is still greenish. We shall just have to buy more paintings and cover the walls as I saw in some stately homes in England. LOL

  • Sounds cruel but I totally agree with Andrews girls looking like the ugly sisters. What one of them was wearing on her head was bizarre.   Loved when they stepped on to the balconey and saw Kate clearly mouthing "Oh wow" when she saw the crowd. what a naturally stunning young lady she is.

  • I think I heard that they were both wearing Vivienne Westwood.

  • LOL totally agree with you re Beatrice and Eugenie's outfits, yes especially that 'hat' :)

Wasn't sure I wanted to watch the ceremony but glad I did and thought the whole thing was very nicely done. I managed to miss the balcony scene but saw the photos later.

  • Afternoon mission accomplished – new Guppies now introduced to the tank – apparently successfully.  Weather went a bit grey first half of afternoon, with wind but no rain.  Had late dinner and then watered the newly planted plants and the things in greenhouse and mini-greenhouses.

Joan – sounds like a good birthday outing  - and new laptop to enjoy the nests(s)!

Margo and Sheila - there is a Westminster Cathedral – a Roman Catholic one!

Well, read everyone’s chat about the wedding, but still not enthused by it – sorry!  I’m not a Republican, by the way, it’s big weddings that I detest, not royalty!

Hoping to receive better news from Son later – he is considering a second option – has been offered part time working at the same place, but would have to do four full days next week, then reduce to afternoons only.  This would be good for his confidence now and his CV later!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Just been catching up.

Agree with all about the major people involved dressing so appropriately and complementing the bride perfectly except................and I agree with all you have said about Beartrice and Eugine.  Someone wants to teach them some dress sense, I know they are young ladies but really what were they thinking about. Also didn't think Anne's outfit was quite suited to her. I'm being picky, but really what a wonderful, happy, day it turned out to be. What a boost for Britain.................never mind the sceptics who don't go along with all the pagentry etc.......... its what Britain does best and hopefully draws the tourists in.

One of Prince Harry and the bridesmades and two - one of the Lancaster and the other with the Spitfires and Lancaster.

  • Evening all: Well, assume you're all on a post-Royal Wedding high.  I recorded it; haven't had a chance to watch it yet, but to judge from our national newscasts, not much else worth reporting happened in the world today (apart from ongoing coverage of ghastly tornadoes). The two kisses on the balcony got lots of attention, plus the cartwheeling vicar (great!); they also had lipreaders reporting on all those asides between the main players. All great fun. Kate's a gorgeous girl! Her sister's no slouch either.  I asked my OH why I didn't have a wedding dress like that when we got married and he said "It wouldn't fit in your back garden."  Folks here pointed out great similarity between Kate's and Grace Kelly's wedding dresses.  My sister watched it (with family and bottle of bubbly) and said it was nice to see that William and Harry both slumped in their chairs like everyone else's sons!  Had a smile at the "L" plate on the Aston Martin - they didn't explain that to U.S. viewers. A friend who watched it also said Beatrice and Eugenie's outfits were - um - ghastly; just Googled them and - oh dear.....Ugly Sisters really does say it. What a shame.

Thanks for good wishes - feeling somewhat better today but now OH has come down with whatever it is. I escaped from the noise: had breakfast with some friends, then hid out at the rose garden (just puttering and chatting) until 2'ish, then went to Arroyo Burro beach with my deckchair and book, but didn't have a chance to read much because 5 whales went by, including at least one calf. I called Mike up the coast to alert him to watch out for their arrival. A very pleasant day.

Diane: Geez. Sounds like 60mph wins can do plenty of damage; can't imagine what an E5 tornado would do (well, don't have to - they showed exactly that on the news tonight).

Lindybird: That photo of Cyprus could've been taken up the road from us (my niece lived in Cyprus for a while and said it was very similar to SoCal). Enjoy your visit to family  - good that Buzz is feeling better; you too.

Eagle-Eye: I grew up in the UK and didn't know that about the Union Jack (and never heard of a jackstaff). Brilliant; thanks!

OG: Gorgeous card for Joan. What is that flower? I can't remember.... Uh oh, short on the fluids today; thanks for reminding me - off I go..... Hope part-time job option works out for son.

Margobird: Enjoy London - hope Billie isn't too upset by your being away - again!  :-) Got a glimpse of the Queen's outfit - must look for not-black shoes when I watch the recording. You're so right, every time they show this kind of thing on U.S. telly they always go on about how the Brits do pageantry better than anyone (how many hundreds of years of practice?).

Sheila: The dreaded lurgy respects no borders! Thanks for posting lovely wedding pix. Glad it allowed you to use YOUR broadband. :-) There's a lot to prattle on about today.

Djoan: Ooh, like the sound of that dessert.

Gary: I saw one of the (Horseguards??) horses on the ground! Wonder what happened.... Must check it out.

Plan to head to bed early again tonight; so goodnight to everyone in the UK and thanks to ALL for wedding commentary!

  • OK. Just started up the wedding recording; it's the BBC with Huw Edwards.  Got take out tonight - a man in line asked me if I'd watched it; he advised watching it in segments....

  • Hi, all. When I went outdoors this morning, several crows were circling right above my house. Round and round. Don't know what that means. ???

Just a brief catch-up from me. No rain, so I picked up brush and cut the grass today (except for land along the creek that still had standing water), so I'm tired. I love my new electric lawn mower. It cut through my tall, still-damp grass like a dream. Yay! Checked my real estate papers, and I actually only mow 1/2 acre. The new mower will cut most of it on one charge of the battery. I'm a little stiff tonight, though. Need to get in better shape. :-) AQ: Cancel those desserts I ordered. LOLOL

AQ: Your meal sounds lovely, even if you did temporarily get stuck with the bill. LOL

OG: I'm so sorry that your son is having difficulty meeting the demands of his new job. Actually, working a split shift is hard on anyone. Not good for creating stability in one's life -- eating, sleeping, etc. I so hope that he can keep the job with reduced hours. I also hope that his doctor can help in some way. You said that he had an appointment soon. I know that worrying about him takes a toll on you. Sending positive energy to him and to you.

Lindy, Margo, Sheila and everyone: Glad that you folks enjoyed the wedding. I confess I didn't get up at 4:00 AM to catch all the coverage, but I did watch much of the re-broadcast on BBC America this morning. I liked the English maple trees in Westminster Abbey.

Lindy: I hope you have a splendid time with family and baby Sweetpea this weekend!!! Glad Buzz is improving and you, too! Beautiful photo of Cyprus!

Sheila: How lovely to see the hare. I enjoyed your photos from your home. Your property is lovely!

Tiger: Loved the Cats vs. Dog voting explanation!
dibnlib: Your photos are stunning!!! Just beautiful!
Margo: Billie obviously now considers herself a part of your family. :-) She's getting very attached to you.
Joan: Congrats on your new laptop! Hope you had a lovely day. Your meal sounds wonderful.
Alan: Had a laugh at your post this morning. Hope you're feeling better.

Annette: I so hope you feel better, Ducky. Sorry about the mysterious earth-moving operation across the road. Very strange behavior. Let us know if you hear what they were doing. I just hate that beep-beep sound when vehicles back up. Especially annoying when you don't feel good. Take care of yourself.

    Everyone have a good Saturday.

  • Tiger, Chloe, and all space folk: The Space Shuttle Endeavour launch was scrubbed today and has been postponed until Monday (at the earliest).

I also meant to say hi to Brenda, Terry and everyone I missed.
