Happy Easter to all
Alan says. . . . Another hot day. Even hotter than yesterday with the temp now 24.8c .Hey Alan - Hot????? We call that "mild". Today expecting 23C here, currently 22.6C.
I have some catching up to do. My apologies to those whose questions I’ve not answered.
Sheila says AQ . . . . I love your travelogue! You are so descriptive and your photos are lovely too. I take it you have an interest in churches. Is this from an historical perspective, or architectural? Sheila - Both really. I like old things and I love the stonework and shape of old churches. I don’t go into it too deeply. Couldn’t name the styles.
OG says AQ . . . . Oh dear! Sorry the paint saga doesn’t have a happy ending. Is it just reflecting the colour of the carpet? OG - We thought at first it was just the reflection but we have laid a quite red Turkish mat across one end and paint is still greenish. We shall just have to buy more paintings and cover the walls as I saw in some stately homes in England. LOL
SHEILAFE no dillon takes forever to dry out and Fingal our last Goldie who had the most amazingly thick coat took even longer. Tried to post another pic of LG earlier without success so will try again now. no luck will try another
Hope you like them. Off out shortly but do not think we will be late as we are still recovering from our crack of Sparrows yesterday morning. See you tomorrow in between champagne and wedding!!!!
Actually the hare was just lollopping (is that a word?!) past, in no hurry. There was on delightful occasion we had a female hare in the garden, just sitting. And then one by one three tiny leverets came out of an island bed and suckled mum!! Wonderful. Never seen before, nor since. Such is the joy of country life!
This is one view from my seat as I sit at my laptop in the kitchen:
A container of seed on the window ledge handy to throw out!
Taken as I sit in the chair. The box outside the window was made by my OH. We saw this sort of thing in Switzerland. It has a lid and birds are supposed to pop in thru the holes to take food, and be seen from the inside of the hotel/restaurant. However, my birds haven't done so to date. But.. the wind blew the lid off a few weeks ago, and since then I have had blue and great tits, robin, finches and even a blackbird just dropping in!! I have not yet managed to take any photos unfortunately. As soon as I move they are off. I think I'll have to put the camera on a tripod and try that way!

Hello everyone and thank you for all the pics and posts which I have read and enjoyed. After dealing with two weeks laundry following our holiday I had to help OH deal with the garden which needed attention after we had been away for 16 days. We really should not leave things for that amount of time, grass was high, weeds ditto, but two days intensive work has rectified things, just about. Winter damage - one of our standard roses has died, two ceanothus have suffered badly and my culinary bay has been badly hit by frost. That is my fault, I didn't protect it during the winter. Anyway, we are home now for a few months apart from a week in May when we will be in South Germany. I cannot reply to as many posts as I would like but OG - hope your son will get stronger and find the right niche to be in. I have a nephew who is in much the same position in life. As you have realised, they really do need positive things to happen for them in order to feel more positive - if that makes sense! Thinking of you. Regards to all.
HeatherB hope you had great holiday.
SheilaFE hope you manage to get some pics of those feathered visitors and post them. Box lookes very tempting for them.
Dibnib - great pics of the loch - quite atmospheric.
Took one of our chaffinchtes that visit and also a pic from the Daily Telegraph of two great crested grebes taken at Poynton Pool,Cheshire.

Heather, glad you had a great time.
Lynette, thanks for the pictures.
Shelia, lovely view from your window:)
Thanks to all who’ve posted re Son – he phoned again this evening, and sounds very sure that he will not be returning to the job after tomorrow. He will have to sort out what this means for his benefit (or bank of mum and dad again!) We had to have hosepipe out again tonight – that’s alternate nights since coming home last week! Makes the evening very short for doing anything else, and both very stiff for all we have done today. Tomorrow afternoon we are going to buy our new fish for the aquarium, so that’s something different – I have checked that the ones we want are in stock.
Sheila – lucky you to see the planes heading for Duxford – a good museum too – used to visit when OH’s parents were alive. I love hares – used to be so many about and really enjoyed watching them “boxing”. Lovely views from your window.
Dibnlib – lovely photo of clear refection in LG. Oooo! More! Like the misty one too.
Gary – Vermont should be good in May – I’ve always had it my mind as a beautifully green state in spring. Pleased your OH can have a break from work, and great that Toffee can come with you – her first holiday!!
Heather – pleased you have had good weather to catch up on the gardening. Man diagonally behind us lost his Ceanothus – and that was a favourite perch for a lot of our birds. Sorry your Nephew is experiencing similar problems to our Son.
Greetings to anyone not mentioned, and Good Night all.
Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
For those of you in the UK confused by the referendum next Thursday (5th May) here is a very interesting guide. It is the Cats v Dogs election.

Another day beginning - for those of us who are watching the Royal Wedding - enjoy.
Will be on later on today.
OG - so sorry to hear about your son - must have missed what you said but I sincerely hope that he can sort things out and get himself back on track and not let this upset him too much. Thinking of you.
Watching tonights news - wedding fever is gripping our capital with visitors from all over the British Isles and beyond. I wonder what the dress will look like. There are already a number of trees in the Abbey so what will the flowers be like. I know they said they wanted everything to be of British origin so what will be around I wonder.
Just watching EJ whilst typing and she was having a right ol itch of her legs, I think!! One egg had strayed slightly so she gently kicked it back to the others and has now settled down again.
Happy birthday Joan.
As I mentioned earlier we planned to go out for dinner on Wed. Alas the restaurant had a feast on Good Friday [!!!] and so were closed Wed. We went last night (I’m not fussed about celebrating The Day as long as I get a dinner out.) Very nice as usual. I had pork stuffed with chicken & fennel and a sauce of cream (naughty), juniper berries & gin. Vegies & rosti. OH had venison. Dessert was creme brulee of course. Rather spoilt by a pot of coffee icecream which I left. Ready for home, OH calls for the bill, looks at it, and somewhat embarrassed says "Did you bring your credit card? I don’t have my wallet." He will never be allowed to forget. LOL He did say he would repay me. Then halfway home he jokes "I’m not paying for the coffee, it was terrible."
This morn OH was putting out the bins for rubbish collection. Beneath the green bin (garden stuff) was lurking wee Lizette. Still there after 10 days. So we retrieved two stumps weathering in a corner of the backyard and made a home for her/him against the wall. I was standing by (in dressing-gown & bare feet!!!) with the broom to encourage him/her to travel to new home. We do wonder how many more baby blue-tongues are lurking in our backyard. And yes, OH did check the stumps carefully lest he disturb anyone else.
We’ve had 2 days of 27C max, only 26 expected today with showers promised this evening. I hope this is the last burst of summer. The autumn leaves and bulbs must be confused.
Anyone from here who thinks they are someone in the world of fame has gone to London and is commentating on The Wedding. Yes I shall watch some of it. I have my knitting ready if there are too many re-hashes of the past. The telecast here starts about 4 hours before the actual ceremony.
Friday SmileGod grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway, the good fortune to run into the ones I do, and the eyesight to tell the difference.
