Evening all: Been out most of the day; just sat down - phew.  Off to check other threads; back in a bit!

  • For the first time in a couple of days I have just managed to get the Hampton cam up and can't believe how big those eaglets are nowl.  Mum sitting in the nest with them at the moment.

  • margobird  Yes the bears have been so lovely. Did you see Gordon Buchanan's trilogy on them back in January?

  • Feeding time at Decorah but Mum is blocking the view.

ALICAT hope your foot is OK and how is Bobbie?

  • Don't know if this has already been posted (apologies if so) but Chris Packham has a show on TV Thursday evening and they make mention of ospreys fishing from a fish farm.  Might be LG I think.

  • 3 chicks seen being fed at Dunedin. Reported on nesting notes on website.

  • Afternoon all ... sunny here, but a very cold wind.

margobird - delighted to read that Billy came inside so quickly this morning and did a quick tour ... absolutely brilliant!

Linda - that's awful about your OH's eye and the stitch ... hope it eases with the drops. I hope Buzz responds well to his medication too.

AQ - more lovely pics and interesting info from your trip ... I love paddle steamers .... beautiful ships/boats(??)

Diane - I am so glad that you are able to stay in your home .... it always sounds such a wonderful place. I hope you will find some way of earning money that will satisfy you. Thanks for the owl webcam link you gave. Looks like the Barn Owl Trust owls won't be breeding this year ... shame :-(

OG - hope you have a safe journey and an enjoyable trip seeing your family.

Thanks to everyone for chat etc

    Take care.

Joan - avid bird and nature watcher in Northumberland!

Tiger I did see it.   Gordon Buchanan's joy at being in such close proximity to the bears, especially Hope was really moving.  Hope that will be repeated somewhere in the future.

  • Morning all: See Odin has just delivered another fish (wrong thread, but oh well). SIte has been slow this last day or so...

Cirrus: In a (rather large) nutshell, Henrietta Lacks was a black woman who died of cervical cancer in 1951. Her doc sent samples of her tumor - in those days it wasn't considered necessary to tell patient/family what they were doing - to a researcher who grew the cells (the first anyone was able to grow in a lab) and sent them to researchers all over the world;. Those cells are known as HeLa cells (first two letters of her name) and are still widely used in medical research. Positive results of that research included the polio vaccine, AIDs vaccine and most recently, the HPV vaccine. The author traces that history in conjunction with her family's mostly bad experience with early media coverage. Family was poor, uneducated, and had no idea what was being done with their Mom's cells, resulting is major misunderstandings of Henrietta's role in medical science. The BBC did a documentary around 1997 on Lacks. Topic may sound dry, but writer makes it a human story. The book was chosen by local campus of state Uni, libraries, and SB City College as part of annual "Santa Barbara Reads" program that makes hundreads of copies of the book available to schools, libraries, etc. in an effort to spur a "dialogue" (hate that word used in that context) about the topic, in this case medical ethics. Aren't you glad you asked? :-)

OG: Have a wonderful trip (but, shame on me, forgot where you're going!) Ah yes, north, right? :-)

Lindybird: Doesn't your OH have a password you can give the cable folks so you can deal with them? Do hope meds (yes, please don't confuse them!) do the trick for Buzz.

Margobird: Wow! Big news about Billy Whizz; I tell you, he'll be in your favorite chair before long. Big Panasonic has been naughty three times in new location; must send e-mail to area service manager about it but haven't had time this last week! This is shaping up to be a great year for a visit to LG. Lucky you.

Diane: We are all so pleased you're staying in your house; how about posting some pix of all those trees, etc.?

OK. Daughter is coming back from AZ Thursday for a few weeks, then will probably go back when g/daughter goes back to work; all very flexible right now. Daughter has been restricting visits to grandbaby somewhat but other grandparents are apparently on the doorstep all the time, driving g'daughter up the wall and giving her and her OH not much time with their own baby! I'll go visit in May, but will stay at local nice motel where I can retreat at appropriate times.

In the meantime, sun has just snuck over the orange tree and Lightning is agitating for morning (tiny) bowl of cream. Yes, I know, I'm very naughty. Thanks all for pix and posts and links. Have a good day.
