Weekly Chat, Sunday March 6, 2011

Welcome to another week. Do check back lest you miss the pics of many and varied birds plus a certain Toffee. And lots of news of course. Diane had another thunderstorm.

Diane - Uncontrollable children in olden days. Children were sent out to "service" as young as 10. Of course they ran away, thus breaking "Masters & Servants Act". Probably broke other laws as humans do. There were probationary school from which they also ran away. I found some twigs on my family tree who were regularly in trouble with the law - for playing the wicked game of two-up in pubs! Their 13 year old brother went one better (ahem), he broke into a school.

Patriciat - So sorry your OH has fallen again. Don’t worry about moaning to us. We do understand. I’m sending blue skies and healing thoughts to your house.

Our spring bulbs are appearing - confused by the unseasonal rain a few weeks ago. Poor things, there’s another possible 3 weeks of hot weather (34C so far today) and winter rains are not usual until May.

Whoo hoo. Less than 3 weeks to OR Day (Osprey Return day). I wonder what soap opera saga they have for us this year!

  • Dibnib - glad you enjoyed your play last night.

Alicat - pleased to hear the baby fish have survived and you can put them in the same tank as parents. Also the other babies in a hatchery, waiting to be reunited.

OG - It looks like your new Farm Shop will save that trip down a track to your other meat supplier, at least it lessens the risk of getting stuck in mud. Glad it looked OK.

Having a Sunday off from Church tomorrow as its the monthly All Age Service. Giving dau a chance of a proper lie in. She has just finished a week cat sitting for her brother so is feeling quite tired particularly as she was on the early shift - having to go out at 7.15am for a 7.45am start.

My brother phoned me today - he is still looking through items in the house that were mums. Found a tin box, no key to it, and had to use a hammer and chisel to open it.  Found a whole lot of family momento's like my father's first driving licence and his certificate when he joined the Masons - he was a member for a number of years, plus other items. Told him to keep them for me as I'm interested in all the family social history.

  • Coffee morning and Co-op this morning (dry), menu planning etc this afternoon, and a short time in greenhouse to feed Geraniums and Fuchsias (wet).  Not many posts here today, but Saturdays are often a bit thin.

AQ – holiday itinerary sounds really interesting for a mix of history and culture – excellent idea to give Munich the extra day, and I approve of the extra days beginning and end to catch up after and before your long flights!

Brenda – glad your nephew’s in-laws are safe.

Alan – quite envious of your warm dry weather today.  Supposed to be dry here tomorrow and something called “sun”!  Pleased the Thunderdog is happier.

Heron – great news about WTE at Lochwinnoch – do they know if it’s a western bird or a young release from the east?

Lynette – enjoy your Sunday off from church – and daughter too, especially after her early shift.  Good that your Brother has found more family mementos – very encouraging for your interest in family history.

I think I am now supposed to be watching a download from I-player before it expires, so good night and see you next week!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Answer to my own question!  Read Lochwinnoch Blog and WTE is believed to be from last year's Fife release.

  • Hi
Lynette:  Glad you enjoyed the Indian meal.  I love indian food, especially after I learned the trick that water doesn't calm the fire but milk does.  Amazing story about your brother finding the family momentos :-)

OG:  You beat me to it in terms of answering your question. :-)  To be honest my internet connection is performing like a fart in a trance. :-(

    Paul.
