Weekly Chat, Sunday February 20, 2011

Morning all: Here's to a good week for everyone. Check out latest pages of last week's thread to see great pix by OG of a kestrel on a road sign and a signpost for migrating birds and Gary's photos of the lovable Toffee plus his Toffee-proof technology. Just had dinner and managed to turn perfectly lovely piece of halibut into shoe leather!  Hate it when that happens, but was busy watching weather forecast.  Desk is looking cleaner - can actually see the surface now.  Take care all!

  • Morning all,

Thanks for all the chat and pics etc. Just skimmed through for now.

OG : Sorry about the hairdryer problem. I think that they are quite prone to overheating. Glad it was not too serious.

Linda : Amazing about the owls changing colour.

Lynette : I have been trying that cam for a couple of days but not seen an osprey on it. Thanks for all the other pics.

Annette : Well done on seeing the whales and good that your garage door was fixed so quickly.

Diane : I keep my protests to signing petitions and writing to my MP. Anything else is probably too risky.

A change in the weather today. Not only is is misty, murky, miserable and malevolent. It is also raining. Hooray!!!. Temp is 6.5c. Feels like we are living in a cave.

Just to cheer us up here is todays osprey advent calendar pic:

  • definitely good news about the Japanese whaling fleet, just a shame they didn't stop befor they started!!!!

ANNETTE  I loved the sound of your salad as well.  A limp lettuce leaf, cucumber and a bit of meat doesn't do it for me either.

That sounds a bit nasty with hairdryer OG it really should have given up the ghost gracefully.

  • I have just checked GE and there are 2 new fixes for Rothes as at 15th and 20th Feb. She is still on Ilha de Unhocomozinho. No new blog so far.

  • Back again – OH has bread maker on in kitchen, which makes me sneeze, so taking avoiding action!  Now dreich and drizzling.

Lindy – couldn’t rise to the lottery challenge – everything I might have got rid of was related to reducing recycling (such as bits of paper for lists etc) and thus not environmentally friendly!  Interesting Tawny Owl research in Finland – always liked genetics anyway, and like to try to understand events which appear to buck the theoretical science.

Alan – found it too warm to stay in bed when I woke up early this morning!  Can’t win.  I guess this is all part of the “warmer and wetter" which we were promised with climate change.  I found myself on the side of the Heron in that calendar pic!  I wonder whether Rothes is staying put this year, or will maybe move up to Southern Europe later, without coming “home” until next year.

Dibnlib – agree about Japanese whalers – liked your turn of phrase about stopping before they started!

Need to find something productive to do and get the working day started!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • For those with relatives in Christchurch, this is a newstalk station, giving all points of view, you will hear what I mean!

I have been listening to this as the straight news stations are either not working or are overloaded.

Some listeners are not happy with the attitude of the talkshow host and the authorities, while others are offering help and telling tragic stories of personal experiences.

  • Good morning Lindybird weather verry gloomy but when I think about what has happened in New Zealand it puts things in persepctive.  I lsitened to someone talking to a girl that was trapped in a building and I have been thinking of her and wondering whether they were able to get her out.  The devastation is just terrible.

Looking forward to seeing the winner of the Lottery Competition later.

Latest on Billy Whizz is that I got within a couple of feet of him yesterday before he moved away.  He was around a lot yesterday but as yet have not seen im today, I don't think he likes the reain much.

  • Good morning Lynetee I do hope you will be able to make contact wih your cousin to find out if the family are safe.  News is getting worse by the minute although quite a few have been rescued many more are still trapped and hope will be fading for those with loved ones still trapped.

Thanks for the captures always very welcome on a miserable day.  I watched some of the play yesterday and it still amazes me that Hope has accepted Faith and Jason so well.
