I am not sure if we should have separate threads for Rothes and Mallachie. If people feel we should the best start them right away.
The first data has been published on Google Earth and immediately it is amazing how much further Rothes has flown that Mallachie.

Maybe when the season is over I will sort out using Google Earth
Formerly known as Barbara Jean
according to the tracking Rothes in now in Western Sahara
still just taking a leisurely stroll up the coast
Thanks!! At this rate she may arrive just in time for the Autumn migrations LOL
Rothes has made a very strange move back into Mauritania if the latest fixes are correct:
The last two fixes are adjacent to a highway, which seems to be an unusual occurrence. The group of fixes over 31st May/1st June, could be a roost. The last fix is baffling, maybe the sand storms are the reason? I don't know if there are still storms. Or the last point could be a typo, but that does not explain the 'roost' group of points.
Here is the last section of kml file fixes, the most recent is at the bottom.
< longitude..................................>, < latitude...............................>, < altitude....>
Maybe it is just a typo 20.92417, possibly should be 21.92417.......but I am sure the data would be checked, by a second pair of eyes, before upload.

Strange migration - maybe she wants to go back to her Paradise Isle. I am back from Central Algerian Sahara (No rest off to Kenya to work now for a week but should have good wi fi) - For three/four days the Sand storms were very bad. The visibilty is almost zero just like a very heavy foggy day when you would not trake your car on the road. Also needed safety glasses on just to go outside as the grit is blown into your eyes. A bird that relies on sight vision and with such big eyes that could be damaged I would sit tight during the storms. Locals at the gas plant i was at tell me that it is not the bad season this tends to be September and my latter days before I came out the weather was clear and fine. Hope she now makes a good N to NE route preferably keeping to the coast.
JSB: Just had a look at those fixes and that last one is very close to the highway. Her flight path goes against all her instincts. Must say I am slightly worried.
Having had time overnight to try to explain Rothes' flight pattern, I feel inclined like Alan, to be concerned. When I posted as above, it was before I had seen the main blog, where there is no real hint of problems.
JSB : Having plotted where she would be if it was a typo, it makes more sense and heading in the right direction. I guess we will just have to wait and see. It would not be the first time they have entered wrong data and I know it is easy to do.
