Tracking Rothes and Mallachie

I am not sure if we should have separate threads for Rothes and Mallachie. If people feel we should the best start them right away.

The first data has been published on Google Earth and immediately it is amazing how much further Rothes has flown that Mallachie.

  • Just looked now Tiger, Rothes is definately exploring a lot more than Mallachie which i guess is coz she has been on the wing a little longer

  • I think it will be a good idea to have a separate thread  so well done for starting it.

Last year Nethy spent some time at Oakenshaw near where I grew up in County Durham.

Then when she was down near Fairford I knew she was probably doing some of her fishing at Bibury as there is a trout farm and a stream where some of the trout swim at Bibury.

I'd like to think I can be somewhere where at least one of them flies over this year so will have to warn himself    lol

Oh brilliant.  I shall have to start checking that.  I just hope and pray that things go better for Rothes and Mallachie than it did for poor Deshar and Nethy.

  • Thanks for starting the thread, Tiger.  Just found the link from the usual LG blog to the tracking page, and am excited that once again we'll be able to follow their progress.  Perhaps Rothes is just that bit stronger, and able to explore more at the moment. Can't believe that those little fluffy chicks of only a few weeks ago are now preparing for such a journey.

  • This is the link to set up Google earth and add Rothes and Mallachie for those who are new to the tracking this year

Rothes has been flying a week or so longer than Malachie so she has perfected her flying skills better.

  • Google Earth seems to be in the process of being updated. Lots of new wanderings for Rothes but the paths for Mallachie are as yet unchanged.

  • I have downloaded Google Earth and am having some trouble settig this up

1.It clearly implies that earth is not flat?

2.There are add buttons all over the place, the one at the top has the network link at the bottom of the dropdown box..Tried a few wrong moves. Can,t paste it.Tried typing, triple checked, still getting nowhere.

    HELP

  • You do need to use the Add at the top and the network link at the bottom of that drop down menu.

Clear the name bit and put in Loch Garten Ospreys  or whatever you like   lol.

Paste the link for the ospreys.   If you can't paste by right clicking and clicking on paste try holding down  CTRL key and clicking on V.  I find that way quicker.

    Hope this helps.
