Weekly Chat, Sunday, January 30,2011

What ho everyone! Lazy day for the most part - girding myself for the busy week ahead - oh for a week with no appointments, no projects, no visitors - but as they, say 'be careful what you wish for.'    Several folks added pix of Lily, Phoebe, and anonymous eagles on the last page or two of the previous thread, plus some quickie posts to wind up the week (AQ may have melted by the time you read this).   In the meantime, here's wishing Andy Murray the best at the Australian Open - it'll be over by the time I wake up.

Have a good Sunday all.

  • Thanks jsb  have just been watching the news, it looks as though it will be really bad and my thoughts are very much with them at a very dangerous time.  Hope there will not be any loss of life.

  • Godo afternoon Brenda H  with all the appeals that charities make nowadays I would have thought someone could find a good use for them.  Pleased that JL played their part well, we are lucky enough to have a JL store quite near to us which does furniture and having had things from them in the past can't fault them either.

  • Poor Lily has her hands full at the moment.  Lots of noise from the den this morning with the cubs being very demanding at the moment.  Just had a look and Lily's face came into view and she did a great big yawn.  Probably wishing they would settle and let her sleep.

  • Hello Wrinklie nice to see you and thanks for the goldfinches pic, lovely little birds but not one I get in my garden.  Like the animated butterfly.

There has been a hatch at the Sequoyah eagles nest but it is only 4 am at the moment so nothing to see yet:

She is standing up now, I'm sure I could see a little bundle of feathers.

  • Alicat : Thanks for the link to the clip of Lily,Hope and cubs.

Wrinklie : Thanks for the goldfinches pic. We have them in the garden from time to time but not always. I think 8 at one time was the maximum.

Found this pic of osprey and very large fish that got away:

  • Punxsutawney Phil says it will be an early spring:
Phil Says Expect an Early Spring!
Phil's official forecast as read February 2nd, 2011, at sunrise at Gobbler's Knob in Punxsutawney, PA:

Here Ye, Hear Ye, Hear Ye

    Groundhog Day, February 2, 2011
Punxsutawney Phil was raised from his burrow
By the call of President Bill Deeley.
He greeted his handlers, Ben Hughes and John Griffiths.

After casting an inquisitive eye towards thousands of his faithful followers,
He proclaimed that the Steelers are going to the Super Bowl!

Back to the business at hand...
He surveyed his surroundings carefully and found that there was no shadow around,
So, an early spring it will be.

    Canadian groundhogs agree:

  • Trish 2 Tweed is brilliant but I'm not - I have enough trouble remembering a course and often can't get my body language right!  I'm really lucky that Tweed is happy to work away from me and to take both verbal and body language commands, as I'm too old and unfit to get anywhere near him when he's going full speed!  By the way, the girl from our training group who moved to England trains with K9 Dog Training in Skipton on Swale.  Is that near you?

  • Afternoon, all.  Road to dentist has some of its potholes filled since ice and then flood damage – this means only 1 in 5 potholes are dangerous – but no way of knowing which until you hit them!  Had some blue sky and even sunshine for a while around lunchtime, then wind and rain on our way home.  One filling to be done so have agreed to have her do it because of uncertainty over personnel at the Dental Centre – she assures me it is only a little one!

Wrinklie – good to see you and your Goldfinches.  Ours have been out in force today – they seem to manage better in wind than some of the larger garden birds.

Brenda – it so often seems to happen that charity pick-ups go wrong, yet we get told folk are desperate.  From our experience helping run a furniture depot, it’s due to volunteer staff and aged vehicles, but it is such a shame that stuff has to be thrown away.  So glad you are happy with John Lewis service and the new sofas and rug.  We avoid rugs as “accidents waiting to happen” with older folk!

Patricia – I am sure you must take some credit for Tweed’s achievements; after all, you trained him to follow verbal and body language commands – and he does it to please you!

Must make dinner – an easy pasta dish tonight, with salad.

I wish we would hear from Diane and Gary soon – very worried for them, especially Diane with all those old trees around.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
