Weekly Chat, Sunday, January 30,2011

What ho everyone! Lazy day for the most part - girding myself for the busy week ahead - oh for a week with no appointments, no projects, no visitors - but as they, say 'be careful what you wish for.'    Several folks added pix of Lily, Phoebe, and anonymous eagles on the last page or two of the previous thread, plus some quickie posts to wind up the week (AQ may have melted by the time you read this).   In the meantime, here's wishing Andy Murray the best at the Australian Open - it'll be over by the time I wake up.

Have a good Sunday all.

  • Good Morning ALL,

OG, Beautiful photograph of your grandaughter. I bet she is growing into quite a stunner now.

Diane, I hope they are exaggerating the severity of your storm. All that ice, with the snow to follow would be so dangerous. Best wishes to you.Take care.

Annette, Would love to have seen your double rainbow. Pity you couldn't reach the end of it and found the pot of gold !  Enjoyed the eagle story and pictures.

Linda, Thanks for the Monday smiles. I think I prefer the scond one.

Dibnlib, I think your crocodile pit sign makes it's point very clear, as well as being funny.

Alicat, Our fish were live bearing and I used to follow the appropriate mother around with a small net to catch the baby fish. I know I must have missed so many and they were eaten by the other fish before I was aware of anything.

Dry morning here, with a white cloudy sky.

  • Margo - no we're on holiday up there for 2 weeks in early July. Staying just outside Nethybridge so not far from LG at all and will be very regular visitors!!

  • trish 2 I am there from June 11 for a week, what a shame I could have met with you had it been the same time.

  • Some time ago when discussing Scottish nature TV programmes, the commentator's name came up. It was Bill Paterson, the well known actor, who was interviewed about his life story, last night on BBC Alba. I think it was OG who was a fan, but that could be wrong? Well here is the link to the interview in English, from iPlayer.

  • Morning all ... its been a  beautiful morning here, but I see thick clouds gathering to the west :-(( Haven't been on over the weekend, so too many posts to reply to everyone individually, but thanks for cute baby pics, scenery, webcam clips, chat etc!

I did the bird count on Saturday morning and got all my usual visitors except the jackdaws. I even got a bluetit which is very rare in my garden!

OG I hope your sneezes do not turn out to be a cold ... and Linda - I hope your OH doesn't share his with you! Love the Monday Smile ... especially the last one.

Diane - Fingers crossed that the storm is not as severe as predicted.

Must go and do something useful!

    Take care.

Joan - avid bird and nature watcher in Northumberland!

  • Linda, I forgot to ask how your husband is this morning. I presume you haven't caught it and  hopethat you don't.

Margo, Thanks for update on Billy Whiz. He definitely has you both very well trained and is very spoilt. Our bird count numbers were lower than normal. Couldn't believe that our regular goldfinches did not appear, except for just one. They are all back this morning !

Trish, Lovely to see a sparrowhawk, but don't enjoy seeing them catch their dinner. Poor things still have to eat though. Pity that yourself and Margo won't be able to meet in the summer.

  • Good afternoon Brenda H  and I agree about Billy Whizz he has trained us very well.  He has been around again this morning but up to now no sun. Keep having a look at the flower tub where he made himself so comfortable yesterday.

Change of plans for today - my sister is not oming with Rhys as she has a headache which could turn to a full blown migraine which she badly suffers from.  Wouldn't want her to drive down and then not be able to drive back as it would be dangerous.  Will probably get to see him next Monday now.  Have just gone round and put everything back where it should be.

Meant to say in my earlier post thanks for all the pics on the end of last week's blog.  Alan you managed to get some wonderful captures of the eagles.

  • Have to mention Culloden Library and it's lovely staff. Took books out this morning and went round to the car which was round the corner. Got a knock on car window and librarian was there with book in hand. "This just came in for you, I haven't had time to check it in but I will go back and do that and by the time you have turned the car round I will bring it out for you" I offered to come in with her but she declined. Sure enough by the time we had turned and were back outside the building she was there with my book. How is that for service with a smile?  I have to add that this is one of the libraries which will probably close due to cut backs. Think I must write to local paper about the great service we receive. I have signed petition about closure but doubt it will make any difference!!!!!

  • Afternoon all,

WendyB : Thanks for the beautiful pics of Loch Morlich.

Linda : Thanks for the monday smiles. Hope your OH is feeling better. He must be pleased with the draw for the next round of the FA cup.

Diane : I hope that the storm is not as bad a forecast.

Annette : Your close encounter with a rainbow sounds amazing.

Everyone else thanks for the chat, pics and links.

This morning we went on a mission to the bank and then to the Post office to pay my road tax as I could not do it on line. It is amazing how many post offices dont do road tax renewals any more. Anyway all done and dusted now. It is a beautiful sunny day with current temp at 2.7c. Still ice on the birdbath so it is still very cold.

Hamish has had his walk so off to check the cams etc.

  • Monday afternoon – grey and cold – but ironing done!

Thanks for all photos and screen captures.

Dibnlib – it doesn’t seem to be a real cold – and whatever it was, it’s clearing up now.  Pleased your cousin is keeping in good spirits despite all she is going through.

Wendy – lovely photos.  When sorting through photo files last night, found some of baby ducks at Loch Morlich in late spring – completely different light and colour!

Alicat – congratulations on the baby fish.  In the past, we have had baby Corydoras (from thousands of eggs laid onto the glass of the tank) and baby Platys (live born).  We never bothered with a brood tank, and just let nature take it’s course, and exchanged the surplus survivors for different fish.

Lindy - congrats to your Son on new job.  Good that he doesn’t need to move house – unless it was to come nearer to you, but then I guess he’d be further from the in-laws!  Pleased they are coming at weekend – hope your OH will be better by then, otherwise you might have to banish him to the allotment!

AQ – hope twig hasn’t done any damage to car – liked the date of next service!  Site was definitely “iffy” yesterday – almost certainly due to folk trying to feed in their Big Garden Bird Watch results – haven’t tried to get onto that page yet myself!  Watched half of recorded TV prog about Macquarie at lunch – think it was broadcast for Australia Day.  Good and bad by the look of him – will finish during dinner.

Annette – hope that landscape guy has both ears open today – and brain!!  Thanks for rainbow description and Eagle story.

Diane – once discussed allergy testing with Doc – opinion was that, since I react to a broad spectrum of stuff, varying from year to year and season to season, testing would not help very much.  “Officially” I only take anti-histamines April to September, but I resort to them between against known allergens such as on visits to dogs and cats, flower shops, crowded places where people might be wearing perfumes etc or when I sneeze and stream!  Ice first and then snow – that sounds horrendous!  Batten down the hatches and stay safe – and I hope you won’t lose power.

Margo – I see it was 10.15 when you posted, I hope 10 o’clock cooker man turned up.  The photo of GrandDau was taken on an intentionally wet walk – OH, SiL and four children dressed in wellieboots!

JSB – not me, so far as I can remember!  Must have been someone else!  We did watch Alleluia in Gaelic last evening – with subtitles!

Dibnlib – great service from the local Library – beyond the call of duty!

Awaiting man to assess materials needed to reposition the solar panels to where we originally thought.  OH is cleaning kitchen (bits the cleaner misses), so I am banished.  Will try entering my Bird Watch data.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!
