Rutland Ospreys 2011

Lynda not been here for a while and so much to read, It is brilliant.

AW doing text book migration, I said he wasn't hanging about but never expected him to move so fast.  It is lovely to see an Adult who knows what he is doing.

Also Einion has followed his uncle and some of the points nearly identical.

Very interested in the DNA results for the fostered chick and here's hoping it was a sucess that would be a fantastic result for RW

If this is your last week at RW for the season, thank you so much and to all well done and have a great party.  Look forward to hearing about your trip to the Gambia and the Senegal.

Thanks so much for the link LYNDAB - I don't always think to visit the site. The link made it so easy and it's such a great   Blog and so informative.

I'm glad that you are all enjoying the links - I thought that I would fill in whilst Alan Petrie is away and am enjoying it!  We mustn't forget that we owe so much to Rutland Water and their Osprey Project - both breeding nests in Wales - Glaslyn and Cors Dyfi, have birds who started out from RW.  But hey, I'm not here to go on about that sort of stuff - I love Ospreys and that is why I'm a volunteer, and also why I write a diary.  We should all be glad that the foresight of people like Roy Dennis and Tim Appleton has enabled us to enjoy these magnificent characters.

LYNDAB HI . i have met both ROY and TIM .. both great guys and dedicated in what they do .. Ilike the way TIM asks , if you see anything rare will you call an tell him . also he always finds time to chat with you.

Lynda - You like all at RW are doing a marvellous job as well as filling in the links in Alans absence.

I endorse all your comments and we must not forget in the beginning the partmership between Anglian Water/Leicester and Rutland Wildlife Trust and the Highland Foundation for Wildlife and the volunteers over the years who brought these birds from the Scottish highlands to the shores of Rutland Water and the subsequent natural colonisation spreading to wales and outer areas of Rutland. It was a great vision - The translocation programme 1996 through 2001 has been a great success. Without it I think it would have taken many decades for natural colonistaion which so far has only reached Lake District and Kielder via the Borders. Early days were difficult but with a great translocation catch in 1997 (03-97) and not forgetting (08-97) the natural colonisation progressed.

I bought the DVD - OSPREYS - Flying home to Rutland water narated by David Attenborough a must if you are interested in the story and great captures of your favourite Ospreys. If you can get this I hope all you bloggers will get one thoroughly recommended.

Linda - I write this in response to your earlier posting and as the season ends as a tribute to all you hard working volunteers at Rutland. Enjoy your end of season dinner and best regards from The highlands of Scotland to Rutland.
