Brenda, I wish I'd been there to see him catch it! It must have been in full view of the hides as the bund that separates Manton Bay from the main body of the reservoir is so close (you can actually see it as a faint line at the top of view from the webcam). Apparently he had to "swim" ten metres before dragging it out of the water! When he arrived at the nest he was fending off some interested pursuers, probably the resident black-backed gulls.

Thank you so much Vespa and Sandy. That was just brilliant to watch. Makes Odin's fish look like sardines.
08(97)'s final legacy: one chick survived and is placed in a surrogate nest:
Thanks Sandy. It is good news that 09(98) has joined 5N at site N and bodes well for next year.
I spent an hour or so at Manton Bay this morning. When I arrived 5R was around but soon flew off on a fishing mission I presume. He had not returned by the time I left. Mrs 5R was mostly on the nest or the T perch above the nest. Here are a couple of pics:

Thanks Sandy really makes sad reading, hope the surviving chick will make it ater all the hard work that has been done and contributions of fish from various people.

Great pics Alan thank you.
Thanks Sandy. Good to hear that at least one chick has a chance of survival and 5N has a new partner.
Excellent photographs Alan.
Thanks for the update, Sandy. Hope all goes well from now on. Finally got round to watching the 'big fish' clip after reading the latest update - amazing! Even Odin will have a hard job beating that one.
Alan - great photos as always - thanks for sharing. How lucky you are to be able to pop over and see ospreys regularly.
