Weekly Chat, Sunday January 9, 2010

Busy all day - will catch up tomorrow. Have a good Sunday all (don't forget to check last pages of previous thread. Somebody has been posting photos of puppies again!)

  • Morning all ,

Thanks for all the chat and the pics of Lily and Hope, the deer and of course Phoebe.

Sad day yesterday after losing contact with Lake District osprey 11. I was concerned that she was roosting so low and so near a road. Maybe its the transmitter. You never know.

Meanwhile nest building continues at NBG eagles:

Weather is cloudy today after heavy overnight rain. Temp 7.5c. I expect a shopping mission is called for today so I had better get geared up for that.

  • Mild and dreich – weather forecast calls it drizzle – I call it mist.  Sorry for all those with worse weather.  Done some morning tasks, now having some coffee.  Blood tests this afternoon – is it really a month since last time?!  Phlebotomist was due back from somewhere warm yesterday, so she’ll be brown and healthy looking!

Kelly – thanks for posting Lily and Hope pics for all to see – I still haven’t made much effort to learn that technology.  Apparently Hope made a visit outside on her own yesterday, and footage of Lily clearly eating her foot callouses was a first recorded confirmation of fact known by native Americans centuries ago!  That’s a lot of snow you are promised – pleased you have your supplies in and can keep warm and snug – and safe!

Lynette – pleased extraction went ok, but have a gentle day today.  Pleased water heating was human error and not a system problem!  Nice Deer – and lovely Phoebe.

Alicat – thanks for reply – I now recall the broken finger incident!  And of course it would be no good taking the test on ice – we once (when we were young many years ago) came off on a snowy hill.  I hope he passes the second module next time around.

Alan – sorry to hear about Lake District 11, but could be techno fault.  Enjoy the shopping (she said, tongue in cheek!).

Had email from Annette – said the site was down early our morning, and when I tried at 7:45 and several times after, whole of RSPB was “unavailable”.  Hope this won’t be happening too often as spring approaches.

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • Good morning Alan  that is sad news about Lake District osprey 11, we can only hope that it is the transmitter.  I hate it when contact is lost and I note your concern that she was roosting low and near a road.

Thanks for the link to the eagles.  What fantastic pictures we will get from this cam once it is up and running.

Rained all night here but dry at the moment with more forecast for this afternoon.  Hope the shopping mission was not too stressful.

  • Kelloggs thanks for the caputres from the den cam.  Just been reading about the lovely inter-action between Lily and Hope.  Picture a bit blurred still and it is only when one of them moves that I can work out where they are.

You sound as though you are in for a rough time with wind and yet more snow.  Stay safe and keep warm, glad you don't have to be anywhere.

  • Good morning Lynette hope you are not feeling to sore this morning.

Lindy - apparently RSPB server went down overnight - maybe somebody switched a switch they shouldn't have!

Thanks OG -- how annoying.   I have to go out now, but am glad to hear that Lynette managed her tooth extraction OK and now all is well.  I hate that horrible "empty hole"  feeling afterwards, though!

  • Lynette lovely captures of the deer and Phoebe who is looking just gorgeous.

  • Quick hello to all as I will not be on much today.  Off to shops in a minute to get more bird food and also collect my pension.  OH and I have a dental checkup this afternoon, just hoping that nothing will need doing other than a scrape and polish but for the two of us that will probably be £120.  If only we had some good National Health dentists in this area.

My sister is still waiting for news of when her treatment will start but I was heartened yesterday when I phoned as she had walked down the road to get a paper on her own.  She assured her OH she could do it but I bet he was worried but she came back safe and sound.  This is the first time she has done anything like this in 3 months.

Not a lot to talk about at the moment as this time of the year is so quiet and so miserable with all the rain we have had.  Billy Whizz is well used to getting his food from the storage box now which is on its side.  Makes me smile when I catch him having food and milk, all I can see is his bottom.  He was down the drive this morning when OH left for work so I think he must have just had a feed.

Take care all and those still having difficulty with snow and ice I really hope the weather will turn milder for you soon and at the dreaded white stuff will go.

  • Good Morning All. ( just )  Plenty of rain overnight.

Pleased to hear you are feeling fine, Lynette, after your tooth extraction.

OH just suggested that we go out for lunch and then do the shopping afterwards before the rain returns, so I am not going to disagree with him. Will catch up later.

  • just seen a crested tit on the LG feeders didn't have time to get picture
