HAPPY NEW WEEK!
I hope everyone has the best week possible.
I don't have a positive post for you all this week. The polar vortex (dangerously cold air from the Arctic) is dropping down on Indiana for the next few days. We are under an Extreme Cold Watch. The "feels like" apparent temperature will drop to 20 below zero Fahrenheit or lower in my area. That's 29 below zero Celsius. My house will be too cold for me to do anything but stay under the electric blanket and sleeping bags, read, and listen to the radio until the vortex goes home. The high winds caused a limb to fall on my power line yesterday, causing a power outage. Luckily, the very kind power crew got here within 2 hours and restored my electricity.
Lots of sweary words by me this coming week!
Love and hugs to all of you.

Oh Diane That sounds so awful. Any chance you could go stay with your friends in Indianapolis? Do hope you manage to hang on to the power so you can heat up some food and keep the electric blanket going. Do you have anywhere to go locally if the power goes out? Will be thinking of you. Here, they're forecasting more hot dry winds for the LA area on Monday .
Been a somewhat frustrating and discombobulating day; hoping tomorrow will be quiet. Take care everyone.
Poor you, what a nightmare
Diane - how awfully cold is that? So sorry. I hope you manage to keep warm under your blankets. Thank you for starting us off. Annette - sorry you are discombobulated!!!
I am going to visit my friend this afternoon. I am not looking forward to it. I don’t want to see her in this state. Apparently she was a bit more responsive yesterday which is encouraging. I am going with my sister.
It's good that your sister is going with you, RUSTY.
Thanks, DIANE for starting us off. I'll be thinking of you - hope that you can manage to keep warm.
ANNETTE,- discombobulation sounds a bit worrying - I trust that generally speaking, all is well with you and the family. I can't imagine being 88 and touring around a space centre ! I'm only in my 80th year and wouldn't be too keen on that :-)
All is OK here - at least it was when I last thought about it ! Son in law has only been home for a week and has been recalled to the Netherlands. The only good thing about working there is that they only allow the guys to be on the rig for 14 days at a time ( and apparently the food is excellent ).
Thank again Diane and do stay inside and hunker down whilst its so cold. It looks like things improve by Thursday if I have your area right. I look at Waveland.
Rusty - how awful for your friend and obviously all of her friends who care for for her. I hope you find her improved today. As someone that lives alone and family are hours away I do worry about this as my Mum had a stroke at 67 and even though her Brother used to visit her daily and called an ambulence when he arrrived, she deterioated over the next 4 days. We all kept talking to her and for a few days she would squeeze our hands but the nurses said to keep talking as even though she couldn't respond she could possibly still hear us.
AQ - I Hope your sleep has improved - mine is very irregular.
To everyone else that Ive missed - have a good week with all ailments improved.
Rusty: Not an easy outing... :-(
Heather Nothing bad, except that our handyman came by to install a new pump in the fountain (we had to dismantle it completely). We filled it up, turne in on and it worked perfectly - until I noticed the water level was dropping dramatically very quickly Had to turn it off and now must disassemble the whole thing to find the leak. Grrrrr. Handyman off getting shoulder surgery. We've had a couple of wrinkles with him the last few times and I'm thinking I may have to try someone else. Also, my keyboard is now sticking again. Sigh. Blech.
@ Annette
I had similar problem sooooo annoying..I used DRY CLEANING WIPE, gently tilt each corner of key and gently slide folded cloth back and forth.
Worked for me,fiddly but worth doing.
Sunny Kate Tried that and then had a techy office person do a proper clean (took back off laptop). He said it wasn't dirty, suggested keyboard is failing.... I think he's right, though I've never had this happen before.
Oh dear Annette. Techy problems. Such a shame that your keyboard might be failing. How long have you had it? I have had mine since 2000. However, I don’t use it much now. Only for worksheets for the French group and my Armchair Travellers presentations. I mostly use my iPad these days as I am doing at the moment. Harelady - it was very interesting reading about your mum in the light of my visit today. My friend can squeeze your hand but, although she appeared to look straight at me, I wasn’t sure whether there was any communication going on. What was good was that she looked nice as they had washed and blow dried her hair. I left before my sister but we are meeting for coffee tomorrow to have a good chat. We took it upon ourselves to fill in my friend’s meal form for tomorrow. We consulted her about the choices but she was unable to react in any way which showed she understood or could communicate her preferences. She has to have puréed food at the moment. We know my friend’s preferences and dietary requirements and, quite honestly, it was really difficult to find something she might like. The menus for lunch and dinner were identical!!! I was very glad that I had been invited to a friend’s for a cuppa afterwards. It was good to have some company and to talk it through.
