HAPPY NEW WEEK!

I hope everyone has a good week.

Winter has arrived on my patch. We had 2.5 inches (6.35 centimeters) of snow with 40 mph wind gusts on Thursday. It has melted now.

I left a carrot in the opening of the groundhog's burrow before the storm, but he didn't eat it. He's probably gone into hibernation. I left his carrot, in case we get the brief warm up predicted for Sunday and Monday.

I laughed this morning. Even with the cold, there was a lone surviving super mosquito flying around my bedroom.

Love and hugs to everyone!

  • Yesterday shopping trip and lunch went without a hitch – and mostly managed to keep reasonably warm.  Looked at Christmas items in garden centre, but only bought a few sweet treats in the Waitrose part of the store – no decorative tat.  Lunch was okay – J had his usual Farmers’ breakfast, OH and I had Christmas special sandwiches – they came with fries, so didn’t eat it all, but he ate my share of “pigs in blankets” and gravy along with his own.  Butcher shopping went well – found all we were there for.  All went quickly so we were home in full daylight, and completed dividing and freezing meats as necessary.

Having a very normal quiet Thursday today.

HEATHER – hope you won’t be kept waiting too long for scan result.  Hospital parking seems quite inadequate everywhere these days.  J’s breakfast is not a hash – just a full plateful of all the “usual” things – because it is on the border it includes English and Scottish variations!.

DIBNLIB – black forest hot chocolate!  Can’t even begin to imagine it!

ANNETTE – enjoy the TXgiving meal with the family.  Any chance grandson can join you?

PAT – pleased to read that your ankle is improving.

AQ – sorry about fridge – good luck with choices for replacement.

Must stop – been told it’s time for my shower if I am to fit in with cooking for dinner.

  • Happy Thanksgiving to those of you across the pond! Hope you are having a great day.

I had a super day yesterday. I went on a U3A coach trip (yes AQ a coach trip) to Chatsworth House in Derbyshire. A very famous grand estate. They had a huge Christmas market which had a great atmosphere. I enjoyed looking at it but didn’t buy anything, I felt that things were overpriced. My friend and I then had lunch (of course) It sounds as if we had something similar to OG’s lunch yesterday. A big bap (bread roll) filled with warm turkey, stuffing, cranberry with roast potatoes. I didn’t have the gravy. I didn’t see how it would work!!! It was very delicious. We then went round the house to look at the decorations. They were very well done. Tasteful I think. Mind you, the dining table was amazing. All round the house were 197 little mice. Each one individually dressed and following a theme of getting the Christmas meal ready. Here are a few pictures from the house. There are mice on the stairs and, of course, on the cheese.

  • We then had a walk out in the park.

  • Next was a return to the cafe for a cup of tea and a big piece of cake!!!

Finally, after dark at about 4.30, we followed a light trail round the gardens. It was magical. I absolutely loved it. We set off home at 6pm.

  • Lovely pictures Rusty. I can see how you enjoyed it so much. Not to mention the lunch!

  • RUSTY - Thank you so much for the photos and description of your day. My late OH visited Chatsworth but I have never been. I seem to remember that it is/was the home of the Dukes of Devonshire ? They were related to the family that my OH worked for. I think !! Now I'll have to do some checking to find out if I'm talking rubbish ( not unusual).  What a super day you had - one to remember.

  • What a lovely trip, RUSTY - and thanks for sharing the lovely photos.

HEATHER - not rubbish at all - the Devonshires own Chatsworth - and the previous Duchess was one of the Mitford sisters - Deborah.

  • We saw and talked about a beautiful portrait of Deborah OG. The guide just by the painting was very knowledgeable about all the Mitford sisters. The family still live there and have been very involved in this Christmas event apparently.
