HAPPY NEW WEEK and HAPPY FULL MOON!

The full moon is Thursday, 17 October, in US and UK. It's a really close Supermoon.

The Covered Bridge Festival began yesterday in my area. Two million people from Indiana and across the country will visit at least one of the festival small towns to buy arts and crafts, enjoy country foods, take bus tours, and see the covered bridges. This weekend, we have weirdly warm weather and glorious sunshine, so our highways have bumper to bumper, slow-crawling traffic and there are crowds everywhere.

i intend to remain holed up at home until the festival is over on the 20th. I went to the doctor last week, and I took the opportunity to stock up on groceries. Yesterday. I walked to the convenience store on the highway and bought drinking water, so I'm all set to stay on my patch for the duration. I gave the groundhog a carrot today.

The festival is a badly needed boost for our rural economy, but I'll be glad when it's over.

Hugs and love to everyone!

  • Lindy - I like the “wise” words in the pictures. So sorry you have earache. I wonder what has brought that on? I have 2 very sore arms today after my 2 jabs plus my sinuses aren’t right. However, I am going to meet my sister and brother in law for a quick cuppa in M&S. My sister is going to help me choose a small gift for a baby girl born to the daughter of a friend. That should be fun. We also had great fun at the 10 pin bowling for my great niece’s 6th birthday. I think I was a bit better than last year!!! My niece had baked a super cup cake tower on a unicorn theme when we got back to their house for the buffet tea.

  • Lindy - The first one, about 'shelf control', is sooooo me!  Books get piled in higgledy-piggledy, and then one day I will pull everything out, sort them into some sort of order (randomly!!) and put them back.  Occasionally one or two will be recycled elsewhere, although I don't like getting rid of books.  I am going to keep a copy of that picture and look at it now and then to remind myself I'm not the only one!

  • Thank you DIANE for starting us off. I remember that you gave us a link to a picture of a covered bridge - must be several years ago.

PAT - once upon a time I had organised book shelves. By size etc. Nowadays, as long as the books are upright I'm happy !

AQ - I wonder who was using the church.... It's good to read that you're back enjoying some of your hobbies. Regarding your daughter - I seem to have a smooth relationship with all of my children but I can't say the same for their relationships with each other . Guess it is a grown up version of sibling rivalry! My son was 57 a few days ago - makes me feel ancient.

OG - is there any word yet about J s housing? Hope the shopping went OK- and that the right decision was made !

LINDY - here's hoping that you have a good journey home and that you managed to get your caravan ready for winter. Good luck with the Christmas jumpers! My son and family will be coming here for a few days after Christmas. Not sure about Sam - he will have Christmas leave so it would be great to see him. He seems to have got over his initial homesickness - he was quite teary when he phoned me at the end of his first week.

RUSTY - I enjoy reading about all your activities ! I'm a homebody but still take vicarious pleasure from them!

Nothing interesting to report from here - eldest daughter and her OH pruned my grapevine yesterday and did some chopping of rambling. roses at the front of the house. My OH never did any garden work on Sundays - our neighbours across the road observe the Sabbath - not so many do these days. I did read last week that there was a fair bit of opposition in Lewis against proposed Sunday opening by Tesco. I think that the Western Isles are perhaps the last bastion....

  • Had a baptism at church yesterday – was done on behalf of Church of Scotland as they are so short of ministers around here!  It was the younger of three little girls.  She was well-behaved (except for screaming the whole time the minister had her in his arms) as was the elder one.  Middle one was  … … well, a middle child!  The relative holding her turned to me and said “would you like a child?  It’s free!”  I said “not a middle child, I’ve got one of my own!”

Today the cleaners will be coming.  OH took J with his “sample” to the doc’s this morning – and found they were having a local, unannounced holiday!  So said sample will have to resid in the fridge till tomorrow!  If they dare to tell us it is not usable, I am prepared to shout!

DIBNLIB – sorry the card was late – postal deliveries are still getting worse – and now prices have gone up yet again!  Beginning to wonder about Christmas cards!

DIANE – thanks for starting the week – and for the moon reminder.  Glad you got your supplies in to hunker down at home through the festival.

AQ – good to see you have started church photography again – but out-of-date website information is so frustrating.

ROSY – you had a long wait for a GP appt for your OH – but at last someone has now witnessed his struggle to rehabilitate.  Another six-week wait – so sorry.

LINDA – enjoyed the book jokes again.  Sorry about the earache – you must take it to the doctor when you go home.

HEATHER – thanks for thinking of J.  His social worker sent a copy of a “to whom it may concern” re his housing needs – but hasn’t told him who she has sent it to.  Currently he is not fit to be alone anywhere.  He went to his church yesterday but left early to walk home – probably due to anxiety because his usual lift is away for a couple of weeks.  Re family – eldest Daughter thinks I should no longer be cluttering up a space on earth – I should just shuffle off this mortal coil, other one just hates us all, and they cannot tolerate thinking of each other!  Dau#2 is “calling in” for her annual duty visit on 27th – Dreading it!

Vaccinations for the three of us tomorrow – what fun!

  • It was kind of you to think of me OG and it gives me an excuse for keeping up my cards for longer.   It is so sad that so many people seem to have family problems.....blood is definitely not thicker!!!!!   Sorry to hear that J is going through a bad patch.

Earache and toothache are the most dreadful pains, hope you are better soon LINDY

Forgot to say that last week we had snow on Ben Wives, last year it didn't happen till early November but usually we have it by the end of October..

  • Lindybird:  I'm going to print out that Shelf Control one and hang it on the bookcase near my OH's desk.  Hope your ear thing clears up!

OG;  Well, you know what they say: "We choose our friends, not our family."  Do hope J's situation can be stabilzed soon for everyone's sake.  My daghter is the original Chicken Little; she wakes up every morning and insists the sky is falling...   "What?"  we say "Again?"   Fortunately we're all somewhat inurred to it but it can test one's patience!

  • I'm putting on most of the "book" pictures I have  as I'm busy pruning how many pictures I have on this phone, as I'm getting some messages that I'm running out of space!!

Sorry if some of them are repeated as can't remember  which ones I've posted already.....   ..
