HAPPY NEW WEEK and HAPPY AUTUMN EQUINOX!

Where I live, we are hoping for the rains to arrive as promised on Sunday. We've had awful drought conditions, with high heat and low humidity (extremely rare for Indiana). Our small-town volunteer fire departments have been stressed to the max with field, forest, grass, and brush fires. The corn and bean fields are crunchy and turning black. Most Indiana counties have declared a state of emergency and put total burn bans in place with high fines.
FedEx delivered my order for all the organization and winter emergency goods I ordered. The big pileated woodpecker squawked at me as I carried the boxes down my long driveway lane. Those woodpeckers don't migrate, so apparently he's going to spend the winter in the woods across from my front door. I welcome his company.

Meanwhile, here aer two photos taken by my niece on her visit to Kangaroo Islands with her friends; these critters were right outside the house wherre they were staying. She's now back in Adelaide for a week.
Dibnlib - your friend is just amazing and I hope this procedure goes well. Lindy - glad you are home. OG - glad the service was good and that the food was ok too. I have had a busy few days as it was my birthday yesterday. Sunday night I went out for an Indian meal with some friends and yesterday I had a light lunch with my holiday friend. Today I have been out with the Flora and Fauna group. We were very lucky to find dry, breezy weather. We walked down the river Clwyd from Rhuddlan towards Rhyl. The botanists were happy and we birders certainly were too. Picnic in the local nature reserve.

LINDA – Over 80s not as immune – that’s a new one. Is it that we oldies are expendable? Like the free bowel & breast screening after 74, no reminders, available only if we ask?
More frustration with NH. It started as my fault for not knowing bank account nos and forgetting to get back to them amid all the other “stuff”. They waited 2½ weeks, then gave the incomplete form to Dau to take home. I made a special trip to NH, no, they say, I cannot fill out a new form. Meanwhile Dau has shredded the form as it has too much private info and she had no way of getting it to me. Brighter news, I happened to be there when OH had his eyes tested. Oh yes, they had forgotten to tell me and it was chance I was still there to assist and pay for new glasses.
