Since the 9th May, a dark, unringed male intruder (with a distinctive large pupil in his right eye and who the team at Lowes has estimated to be 2-3 years of age) has been a regular visitor to the nest. The Pale Male, who had ‘destroyed’ the three eggs on the 7th/8th May, has not been seen on camera again and it was mentioned that this new young male had chased him from the area.
He has delivered many small fish ‘gifts’ (three in one day on a couple of occasions) and a sizable larger one to NC0 - her calls expressed how grateful she was - but that did not stop her from catching her own huge meal on the 23rd May, to satisfy her appetite. His many mating attempts have so far been rejected by NC0 though this has not put him off from making continuous efforts. The Dark Intruder, as named by staff in the hides on the reserve, is showing great nest building skills - bringing in a multitude of various-sized sticks and soft nesting material.
Although the relationship is in its early stages, NC0 appears to have accepted him as a 'potential' future mate and they have been observed working as a team to defend the nest against seen, and unseen, intruders - all encouraging signs for the beginning of a possible new chapter here at Loch of the Lowes.

Too hot 'n confused to tell you anything about DM & NC0 today, but here's a GSW with seom birdie voices revealed when enhancing the sound:
IMAGICAT
Super Scylla thanks. According to my Merlin app, we had a coal tit ( the loudest voice at the beginning) nuthatch and treecreeper along with your great spotted woodpecker!
Oh wow! Thank you for the little voices IDs, Glider x
(G'night)
You’re welcome Scylla, couldn’t have done it without the App!
Goodnight.
Just had a scroll-back to 11.47 which is the furthest I could go. The couple were still about.
15.05 They arrived on the nest within seconds of each other. NC0 was vocalising but in a quieter, chatty way!
The male had 2 unsuccessful mating attempts.
He got pecked at and shrugged off.
Up he hovered
and tried again.
He was shrugged off again.
Back down onto the nest.
NC0 left and the male immediately followed.
18.40 a wood pigeon visited for a few minutes.
20.07 NC0 dropped by for 7 minutes.. She shouted for fish.
22.03 Final visit. NC0 again asking for fish. She left after a minute.

NCO arrives on nest at 8.50am followed by DM minute later with clump of grass. NCO not happy. Haven't scrolled back any earlier
I think this was about 05:30 this morning - I should leave others to do the IDs:
The one that flew to birch looked like NCO. Not sure about other one she chased off
1 August
14.00 A quick snap just to show that our couple are still around.
And what do you think NC0 is doing?!! ©️SWT/LotL
First in on the first was DM, he stayed for half an hour - and when I saw a flash of wing and replayed in real time, I heard the unmistakable dulcet tones of NC0 complaining before she flew off from above the cam towards the birch... but didn't seem to land there.
Later, GLIDER's snap shows them both on the nest, no fish, and, apart from the Raven, no-one was seen after that for the rest of the day.
02 August
14:00 - First appearance was DM with a bundle of something, which he spread in the nestcup but which soon got dispersed by the wind.
That was all I found up to 16:30
I’ve scrolled back for the rest of the day and it’s been an empty nest.
