Maya and 33(11) have taken turns incubating their precious eggs and we should see the first hatch towards the end of the first week in May.
13:30 Maya takes a comfort break - cant see any signs of hatching as yet
14:53 they grow so fast, just a couple of days old and already the little un wouldn't get back in its shell
15:39 another top up
20:23 quick check and see Maya giving bob its supper
and still no hatch
I do not think any hatch is expected. The solution lies in the egg left in the nest. In my view that is egg #2. So egg #3 hatched bang on 35 days as one would expect. Nearly all egg #3s hatch on 35 days.
Tiger Signature
It's interesting you saying that, Tiger. I know both third chicks at Lowes in 2021 & 2022 hatched on 35 days.
Well, this little bob is going to be thoroughly spoiled if that is the case!
There is tons of data of data on this. See www.imagicat.com/layingtohatching.html
and Dyfi did a recent blog on the subject https://www.dyfiospreyproject.com/blog/emyr-mwt/telyn-lays-three-eggs-2024-without-delay
Thank you so much, Tiger!
This situation is very like DPOF 2006 when spodgology was born. See The Mystery of The Missing Egg
Thanks for the info Tiger.
Compared to past seasons I didn't think all was well when Maya and 33 returned but of course they were early, it was still cold and Maya's heavy breathing did raise concerns.
She's certainly looking better than she did and at least they have one healthy chick - perhaps enough for her this season.
