Three beautiful eggs were laid from mid-April, with the final one arriving almost 10 hours later than NC0’s usual 72 hour 'cycle'.

Both Laddie and NC0 have had to defend the nest from many 'passing through' intruders. Could Laddie’s defence of the reserve be the reason why there has been no sighting of him on the webcam since early lunchtime on the 28th? There were a few occasions where there was a high likelihood that he may have been in NC0’s sight since then though, her loud fish calls alerted us to that probable fact.

With NC0’s last meal being delivered on the 27th, we can only hope that Laddie arrives home not only fit and well, but also with a well-deserved fish for such an amazing female Osprey – her endeavours to keep the eggs protected, warm and dry during his absence, have been truly remarkable!

As I write, it has been just over 60 hours without Laddie at the nest and we now wait, in anticipation, for a positive start to this new month...

*UPDATED 4.5.23: Heartbroken to report, that there was very sadly no positive news forthcoming regarding our dear Laddie...

*Two eggs were destroyed on 7.5.24; the third one on 8.5.24, by an unringed, Pale Male Osprey. All were deemed unviable due to being chilled and left for long periods without incubation

  • Edit:  works fine on laptop ... both that & tablet use Chrome browser

Ahh, so that was the reason. Thanks Wendy!

Sorry didn't make that clear ... I meant that the short link works on laptop but not on tablet even though same browser used but ok now that Ash published full link!

  • I'm not sure if there's also one on dead birch. Difficult to tell at a distance

    Hi Belinda,

I was wondering if something was sitting on NC0's diving branch but the pixelation was confusing matters. I didn't highlight it in my pics of the Dark Male on the previous page

    Edit: 14:52 - still unclear

    Oh, I see! Thanks Wendy!

  • Loud chipping heard, 16:44 - nothing seen but it sounded quite close to the nest

Edit: A ruffle of feathers at 16:53, so whoever it was is most likely on or near the cam post

  • Dark Male to the nest, 16:56, down from the cam post. Chipping, alarm calling and generally getting in a right old flap all over the nest!

    Something in the sky?

    Checking again

    Back to the left side

    Checking the sky again

    Chipping

Held his wings out before heading to the back of the nest

He was quiet as he looked behind

    Checked again

Flew off to the left (and out of cam view) at 17:00 - chipping as he did so

  • I wonder why NC0 doesn’t come to the nest? Is she not in the area? Is she keeping out of it until there is a victor? Or still holding out that Laddie may turn up and she doesn’t want another mate yet? Would she defend the nest if a female came along?
Just my thoughts!  Time will answer my questions. Slight smile

  • Just my thoughts!  Time will answer my questions

I hope so, Glider because I haven't got a clue! lol

He was back again at 18:10. Down from the cam post

    Pecked at that thick stick

He made a series of soft contact calls, even when changing/and had changed his position

    A look towards the birch

Off he went at 18:12, still making soft contact calls

    Flying to the left

And was soon back flying low over the inlet and behind the trees

  • At present, 18:42, there's an Osprey on the perch

It landed there (sounding a few chips) a minute or so after the male had flown off  *Edited in pics showing a flight over the Loch and incoming prior to landing. So a continuation from my post above*

Making his way round to the nest?

18:13 I think it is him again (he did a few crop drops soon after landing)

    Preening at 18:45

I have to sign off for a little while. BFN

  • I think this was bird tha landed and still on perch

  • Thanks Kate!

    He's still there at 18:49
