April saw Blue LJ2 (18) pair with a new female, Blue 372 (21), with his first mate, Blue LM6 (18) sadly not returning this year. They raised 2 chicks in 2022 and 2023 and had formed a good partnership.

As a 3 year old, this is Blue 372’s first year of breeding. She was translocated to Poole Harbour in 2021 from a Scottish nest. She returned in 2023 and teamed up with Blue 416. They actually intruded at Llyn Brenig then and found themselves a nest elsewhere on private land in Wales. However, this year, Blue 372 chose the Llyn Brenig nest and LJ2 as her mate. Blue 416 did intrude here and try to take Blue 372 back. She stuck to her choice though and Blue LJ2 courted her and they became a couple. A lot of new experiences for Blue 372 this year but she is handling everything well and still doing her own thing ie catching fish if need be!

Good morning. Things moving along steadily here. Both birds taking turns with incubating.

05.18 372 left the nest after her night shift and a few seconds later, LJ2 flew in.

Egg #1 is nearest the cam, #2 top left and #3 top right.

05.19 LJ2 settled on the eggs.

06.47 372 flew in for a bit of preening on the tower perch.

  • That's fantastic news, Glider. Another one of Mrs. G's grandchicks returning safely! Hugging

  • Yes, it is indeed Sandra. Mrs G lives on. I wonder if Brenig will have told Glaslyn? Probably I should imagine. Blush

14.01 Blue 041 with 372 defending. It was a very brief visit. LJ2 could be heard skydancing at the same time.

17.17 Later, LJ2 brought a very nice headless fish to 372.

17.18 His right leg was bloodied

372 initially struggled to get a good grip of the fish.

17.19 She flew upwards but got caught in the straggly branch on the edge of the nest.

    She landed again

repositioned then took off, watched by LJ2.

  • 18.06 372 returned with what was left of the fish after she had a feed.

18.07 LJ2 was vocalising before she landed. He collected the fish.

He kept it in his beak

    then took off.

    06.54 She quietly yawns

06.54 then gets up, rolls the eggs and repositions herself.

  • Fabulous news this morning. At 8.32 a.m. KA9 Gelert landed on the PTZ perch at Brenig. He's a 2022 returner who has come home to his natal nest, but was of course chased by his Dad who only saw him as an intruder.

  • 08.35 My heart is in my mouth, oh my goodness, we have had a very special visitor.
