(I am starting a new thread for April because, for sad personal reasons, Korky cannot be with us until further notice so the March title cannot be edited.)
Please read Korky's comprehensive March 2024 intro.
Asha and Brodie
Last year they arrived on 04 and 14 April respectively.
The end of the 2023 season was marred by the aggressive intrusion of BlueKL5 "Klive" (thank you, Fergus). We have no idea if the 2 youngsters were fit to migrate.
We haven't heard anything from HQ but it appears that the cams are not quite ready, despite snaps being posted to Facebook 10 days ago together with a query about the lack of IR for the third year in a row - and the streaming is unsteady and unreliable. When LG issued a warning about a delay to the opening of the season, it seemed to refer only to the Visitor Centre.
The PTZ now
Quote RSPB YT Channel: When the Loch Garten Nature Centre opens on April 15th, this camera is controlled by the centre staff during work hours, so please be gracious if you find it staring at an empty tree! The birds react quicker than the staff are sometimes able.
IMAGICAT
Thanks for the awesome catch up Sheila and for sharing the concerning news. Our thoughts are with Maya.
Woohoo!! We have nightcam this year. I haven't checked when it came on
.
It was 20.47

Some good activity today from the pair, nest sorting, sticks being brought and some mating. Getting off to a good start. Thanks for the lovely detailed report Sheila.
So sad to read about Maya, fingers crossed that she will be okay.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Thank you Catlady. I'm trying to change the time of nightcam to 20.47, but it seems stuck at the moment.
Thank you all for the reporting in all guises today, especially SheilaFE and 25mac (the latter for the heroic and successful effort!).

I think we always had nightcam on the PTZ, it's on the nest that we're missing it for the third year running.
BTW, I have msg'd FB and Fergus about various "shortcomings" of the cams - I think my snaps were removed from FB, and my email to Fergus was reported undeliverable.
Hey-ho
A few scenes from today, by no means the best or comprehensive, but I think the video shows a very positive start for our couple:
So far, the only fly in the ointment - or on the cam lens! - is this hangover from seasons past, still with us! But wouldn't show its full frontal:
08 April
Asha landed 06:08 and is still just stood standing (here we go!) waiting...
I wonder if Brodie was skydancing - but I can't stop to listen:
scylla yes he was at 06 23. What a boy he is!
I love your summary of the day video Scylla. A great flavour of goings on at the nest. Asha and Brodie look fantastic.
Asha flying with Brodie's fish gift:
I haven't been following them closely today, but there has been mating on the nest. They stood companionably on the nest, mated. Then they were seen on what I think is the bare topped tree which lies behind the cam and nest.
Brodie brought in some soft furnishings
Someone flew to Odin's perch
Brodie below the cam on the totem pole
Asha was on the nest at this point. Brodie left the totem pole and flew to the nest for a quickie and flew.
14.28 Asha on the nest
She is still there
