It was a very welcomed surprise to see NC0 arrive back from her wintering grounds on the 8th March, her earliest return to date! NC0 kept herself occupied while alone - catching some impressive-sized fish to eat as well as preparing the nest in readiness for future eggs. To note, her severely split blue darvic ring (as seen last season) is missing and she now only wears a BTO ring on her right leg.
It was a nail-biting time for us waiting to see if dear Laddie would make an appearance too and, little did we know, that it would be a further 19 days before he made his ‘grand entrance’ on the 27th, being ‘escorted’ to the nest by a flock of very vocal gulls!
Having settled into their usual routines on the nest and around the reserve, we now look forward to watching this season’s events unfold.

19:15 NC0 returned to the nest with quite a sizable amount of fish remaining. Laddie was on the nest at the time
He was a little unsure at first whether or not to approach her
But then turned to take his chance. He tried a couple of times to take it from her (in this position), without success, then moved to the right edge of the nest
NC0 moved slightly to the left. Laddie took his chance to make his move, success!
Fish in his beak here
Transferred to his talons
As he flew off with his supper, Laddie's talons also carried some grass, some of which fell away - the wind blew it close to NC0's left side

Hi Glider,
Yep, lol
NC0 prior to flying off at 20:26
Apologies for the blurred pic of her flight away
As at 20:55, it's been ENS since then
Pre-night cam at 21:04 - I can't see Laddie or NC0 roosting on the birch
NC0 landed on the perch, 21:12
Laddie paid a very brief visit to the nest at 21:21 - there wasn't any remaining fish in his talons
Contact call made
He cleaned his beak in the grass...
...and again on the sticks
Off he went, less than a minute after arriving
Laddie was back again at 22:12, NC0 was preening
Cam zoomed in at 22:18, just in time to see Laddie yawn
22:19 Nestcupping
22:20 NC0 sleeping
22:24 He had a little wander
22:26 Now at the front of the nest, Laddie paid some attention in this direction
He adjusted his position
And flew down to, I assume, the limb of the nest tree, at 22:27
I could hear some rustling shortly after and he'd possibly moved, NC0 looked
