HAPPY NEW WEEK!

I hope everyone has a wonderful week.

We are experiencing peak bird migration right now here in the Midwest. Last night, 6,632,500 migrating birds were confirmed over the state of Indiana. 4,761,000 birds crossed over the entire state. We've all been warned to turn our lights out so that we don't disturb the birds.

It's too dark here on my patch and the trees are too dense and tall to see them, but I hear them at times, especially if there's geese. The mosquitoes and biting gnats will eat me alive if I go outdoors at night. (LOL)

Hugs to all.

  • My OH is pottering around, saying he is alright, but I know he's not. However, he's not doing much in the way of golf etc. So he managed an hour at the allotment. Sue popped in with her dog, as he needs eye drops four times a day and she's struggling to administer them. We helped her and he forgot all about the fuss he made beforehand!

I had my haircut, a week earlier then usual, as I'm timing it for a holiday in November. The hairdresser was her usual self and we talked for the whole three quarters of an hour, to put the world to rights!

OG - Sorry the door is not right, how annoying. Fingers crossed that they come up with a good solution.
  • Heather, I hope your son in law has a good journey back, with his upgrade.
  • HEATHER - Great that s-i-l had an upgraded return. Q is not the most popular airline DownUnder lately. They wrongly put off workers during covid, they have made it difficult for people to get refunds or rebook, they paid huge bonus to Big Chief (now ex) and shamefully sold tickets on cancelled flights weeks after cancellation.

The garden is so dry now and weeding is difficult. No decent rain until next autumn, we can expect only an occasional shower. They predict a hot dry summer and it has started early. We do live in the driest state in the driest continent. I am watering my veggies daily. Another chore to remember.

  • AQ: That's interesting about Qantas - the New York Times ran an article a few days back on how it wasn't the most popular airline Down Under. Selling tickets on cancelled flights? Very rude. I saw somewhere that El Nino, which is forecast to bring us lots of rain this winter, is also responsible for your projected hot dry summer. Didn't realize you were the driest state; I'd've thought the area in the southwest would've been drier, but having checked a map (ahem) I see that Western Australia takes up half the continent!! Those are huge states you have.

    Stay well all!

  • Look what Limpy and I saw in our neck of the woods on Saturday:

Click on this gorgeous bird to see more of it.

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • Beautiful Clare, Thank you.

Your Photography is absolutely fantastic, the clarity superb. All your snapping has been well worth the effort you and Limpy have invested in achieving such wonderful shots.

  • Thank you. It's certainly better than it was!

  • Door person (supervisor?) phoned this morning - lots of excuses over the phone (rubbish because he can’t see the evidence!) so he will come and look with his eyes tomorrow morning. We are still very disappointed and angry – trying to calm down.

Third day of schools’ closures for strikes so J is slowly reducing his pile of ironing! It was a rough night – EE had to go and rescue the wheelie bin at midnight – luckily the bottles, cans and plastic containers this week, so clean rubbish spreading far and wide.

RUSTY – that was a large gathering for lunch, you seem to have a lot of friends!

LINDA – good that you could help with Toffee’s eyedrops. I hope it broke the trend and Sue can manage on her own today. A holiday coming up again? Where to this time?

AQ – sorry spring is so dry as well as expected hot and dry summer – good luck with the veggies! Interesting about the quoll! I wonder how many there may be waiting to be found!

CLARE – what a beautiful Shrike! - wonderful photographs!

Lunch nearly ready – then OH shopping for veg before my shower – seem to be rushing about to catch up again!
