HAPPY NEW WEEK!

I hope everyone has a wonderful week.

We are experiencing peak bird migration right now here in the Midwest. Last night, 6,632,500 migrating birds were confirmed over the state of Indiana. 4,761,000 birds crossed over the entire state. We've all been warned to turn our lights out so that we don't disturb the birds. 

It's too dark here on my patch and the trees are too dense and tall to see them, but I hear them at times, especially if there's geese. The mosquitoes and biting gnats will eat me alive if I go outdoors at night. (LOL)

We have a picnic up there with super views over the estuary to the Wirral and Liverpool beyond. We have to walk back the way we came. Some people are just doing the walk one way and a car will be left at Bettisfield to pick them up. It is a 4 mile round walk. It will be high tide so there are usually lots of waders and egrets roosting there pretty close.

    Wow.  That sounds absolutely wonderful.  I'd love to see some photos.

    Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

    Good Morning. I was awoken by my OH with my mug of tea and the announcement that he wouldn't be going to golf, as he felt so terrible, & I must say he's coughing & does sound bad, poor man. Sue said she hopes I don't catch it so I replied that I didn't catch the last one, claiming at the time that I'm so stuffed with vitamins & iron, I'm immune!! LOL!! (Well have to wait & see)

    Rusty- It's years since I went to the Zoo there, but I do remember that there were especially beautiful gardens. How nice for you to enjoy your annual ticket.

    I look forward to hearing about your lovely walk today.

    A bit more relaxed today. Schools here are all closed (first of three days). J has had to go out for his regular blood test - has to be neatly timed in accordance with one of his treatments so convenient that he is not working today. Weather is “iffy” – dry so far this morning.

    LINDA – J said he was going to throw his blanket over his bed last night – hasn’t reported whether it was successful. I kept on with the old faithful hot water bottles, and seemingly moved them around quite often. Sorry about family colds and coughs – hope you don’t catch anything while you are feeling “low”.

    ALL – I find spiders tolerable but can’t abide crane flies – I think I had to have one cut out of my long curly hair when I was young! Here, they emerge from the grass in early autumn – ie about now!

    ROSY – oh, no! I would never use fly killer on a spider!

    ANNETTE – sorry about the muscle strain – do be careful! I hope the gardener turns up as expected and does a good job.

    CLARE – I am okay with needles – quite fascinated watching them - except at the dentist – they seem to use such big ones!

    RUSTY – I hope you are enjoying today’s outing with Flora and Fauna – sounds wonderful; I wish I could still do that kind of trip.

    OH just joined me in the study – busy ordering yet more bird food! But we don’t begrudge them their all-day snacks!

    OG - you wouldn't approve of the way that I send spiders on their last journey...I can't bear them, sorry to say. When my OH was alive I used to shout ' tarantula in the bath '.
    ANNETTE - I hope that your pain eases soon. Hope that the gardener will be of help - you have a lot of stuff on your plate..
    LINDY - I'm doing the same at present, a blanket that I can throw off. I hope that you don't catch the dreaded lurgy.
    DIANE - if I can't cope with a spider, I certainly couldn't cope with a raccoon. Just not used to wildlife, I guess !
    Son in law on his long flight back from Australia as I type. He got a complimentary upgrade to Qantas business class.

    It wasn't me who used fly killer on a spider OG. Not guilty. I don't use any sprays in the house. We catch spiders and flies (when possible) with the spider catcher and deposit them out of the widow.
    The spider turned up in my bed again this morning! It could have been the same one as I put the first one out of the window onto a sloping roof. Obviously not a very clever idea.
    HEATHER - I am not very good at coping with creatures by myself either, but sometimes it is necessary.

    OG - I'm afraid it's me that uses fly spray on spiders. They have to be removed, and when they are ENORMOUS and completely out of reach, what else works???? I know they are God's creatures ... but I'm sorry, they have to go. Living alone, you have to resort to drastic measures sometimes.

    Living alone, I find the good old battery operated bug vacuum with extendable tubing captures most everything and I then deposit it outside.. I also never use sprays inside. I have an asthmatic cat who cannot tolerate sprays of any kind.

    I am interested in photos of the grass garden. I hope to finally have my back yard re-landscaped. next year. I have been on a waiting list since our Derecho 3 years ago. I would like a number of grasses incorporated into the yard.
