HAPPY NEW WEEK!
I hope everyone has a wonderful week.
For various reasons, I've had a bad summer. So. I concluded today that I need to improve my quality of life. I went outdoors and sat down on my front step to think. There on the sidewalk in front of me was a big, astonishingly beautiful feather. It appeared to be about 11 inches long. The shaft was a brilliant silver color. The bottom was a silver gray with white splotches, and the upper section was a mottled deep brown and midnight black. The edges were outlined in black and silver.
I'm not good at identifying feathers, and I didn't recognize the bird species. I don't think it was a hawk feather. It wasn't a bald eagle, a goose, a duck, a vulture, or a wild turkey. It could have been an owl, but I didn't recognize it.
As Annette said earlier, this is the time of peak migration here in the Midwest. Millions of birds are in the sky during the 3 hours after sunset. So, I reckon a bird from up north decided to visit me. I felt uplifted.
Take care, all.
Our herring gulls are red listed birds. Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.
Here is a gull picture for Clare:
He/she was eyeing me up, possibly because I was standing near a picnic table! If you enlarge, you can see the Snowdonia mountains in the mist behind. And below his tail, is a black outline which is a helicopter about to turn in to land at Caernarfon Airport!
Lindybird said:Ah, but he must have had a lot of ideas already in his head, about dragons and warring armies.
He was the best part of twenty years into the creation of Middle-earth, but apparently hobbits came from out of nowhere. Amazing bloke.
I always read the thread, then type my reply in Word before copying to “Reply”. Yesterday before I could finish, our internet died. It did not return for over 24 hours, by that time I had contacted techie s-i-l who planned to visit us in his lunch hour. The threat of him calling was apparently enough to restore whatever was wrong. I detest all this modern technology but I can’t live without it. So here is yesterday’s post.
DIANE – Thank you again. As for your feather, it just shows what can happen if one stops, sits down and does nothing. Some good fairy aka bird knew you needed it.
RUSTY – Our lawns dry our quickly when the hot northerly winds drag in the dry heat from the Outback, as they did earlier this week. I like extended birthdays; spreads the pleasure!
My bulb patch is blooming with irises. bluebells and black pearls. The iris are dark blue, light blue, a sort of purplish blue and white, lots of white. This year to add more colour I bought a pack of 4 mixed colours, the cover pic showed blue, yellow & white. Mixed? – white, white, white and white.

That sounds beautiful.

You might want to have a word with the shop - especially as you can't return them.
