Chicks fledged 23 July
Mari first, (16.22) followed by big sister, Dilys 4 minutes later. (16.26) (55 and 57 days old respectively)
Today 1 August - Dilys is 66 days old and Mari is 64 days old.
It has been a wonderful month for this family. A plentiful supply of fish saw the chicks grow quickly into juvenile ospreys. As did the youngsters of last year, these two took turns to feed and with LM6 fishing as well now, they have often had a fish each at the same time. Mari, has turned out to be the faster developer of the two, practising fishing off various perches on 30 July (aged 63 days old) and on 31 July she started taking the fish off the nest to eat.
The next few weeks will see Dilys and Mari practise and hone their skills in preparation for becoming independent birds and tackling their long migration ahead of them.

You’d think LJ2 had made a Noughts and Crosses game for the girls to play whilst waiting on fish! Haha
21.12 Mari has taken her fish to eat on the preening perch. Looks like she’s staying there tonight.
Friday 18 August
Good morning It still sounds very windy here, continuing from last night.
05.44 Both juveniles arrived early on the nest to shout good morning to their parents!
06.25 They left and returned a couple of times, asking for breakfast.
06.57 LM6 arrived with a nice sized headless fish.
She flew in between her girls
It was Mari who got the fish.
Dilys watched as Mari ate.
07.11 Shortly, Dilys got her breakfast too.

Dilys quickly took the whole fish, albeit smaller than Mari’s
Dilys gave it a peck straight away.

07.14 Lovely to see them eating together.
07.21 After a few minutes, Dilys decided to take her fish elsewhere.
Mari watches as Dilys flies out of view.
Mari stayed a little longer then left with her fish at 07.33.
Mari flew in the same direction as her sister and disappeared out of sight too.
It’s been a funny day. LM6 has spent hours and hours on the nest. She was there at 07.36

17.40 a cheeky crow lands at the edge of the nest.
LJ2 puts up with it for about a minute then flies at the crow to chase it off.
18.39 Later, LM6 returns to the nest.

She quickly takes it.
18.55 LJ2 leaves then LM6 and Dilys stays on the nest for a few more minutes.
She takes her fish to the edge then grips with her talons.

LM6 returns to the nest.
She stands and stares out over the water.
20.29 As it starts to get dark, she leaves. A juvenile has been flapping and could be heard from the perch.
20.54 LJ2 pays a quick minute’s visit. The juvenile on the perch is still making a noise.
