  • Monday 17 July

Good morning Grinning LJ2 did a late night visit to the nest and took away the second fish that was still lying to the perch. 23.04

05.05 In the morning, LM6 came to the nest and found what was left of the first fish (I thought it had all been eaten last night!). 7B6 was over first for a feed, later joined by 7B5.

7B5 having a preen whilst her sister feeds.

    05.22 Both feeding together

05.27 As they fed, LJ2 suddenly let out an alarm call. (Like a human intruder one) The chicks immediately pancaked

    LM6 flew off

LJ2 flew off from where he’d been perched, with fish in toe

Calls could be heard then nothing. After a short while, LJ2 arrived on the nest with his fish. (the one from last night) 05.55

05.56 LM6 soon arrived too, watched by her family.

Alarm over, LM6 took the fish from the nest and was able to feed the chicks again.

06.05 All back to normal, LJ2 on the perch and LM6 with the chicks.

I just get the fear when I hear that alarm call. With recent tragic events at Kielder, you just never know.

  • The chicks have been named! Smiley

    Taken from Brenig FB

  • Aww, beautiful names, Glider, I just had to look up their Welsh meanings!
Dilys - 'perfect, true, or reliable'
Mari - 'star of the sea'
  • Oh how lovely Sandra, thanks for looking up their meanings. I loved their names anyway and now even more so.Two hearts

  • You're welcome, Glider. I think they were the best two out of the four choices - just perfect! Hugging
