Egg No. 1 laid 20 April - Hatched 27 May (37 days)

Egg No. 2 laid 23 April - Hatched 29 May (36 days)

Egg No. 3 laid 26 April - Hatched 1 June  (37 days) Sadly, this little chick died on 3rd June. It coincided with LJ2 having a leg injury and unable to fish at the time. I don’t know if this was the sole reason, part of the reason or something else. RIP little one Purple heart

The family of 5 for a couple of days. Bob 3, RIP, in between #1 and #2 

Four weeks later, our two thriving youngsters, #1 and #2   (36 and 34 days as at  01/07/23)

  • 12.26 LM6 has been on the nest a lot today.

    13.12 chicks tucked in. The weather continues to be dreadful.


    and the rain and wind continues 15.39 


    16.03 Don’t know if LJ2 fancies fishing in that weather.

    17.37 LJ2 arrives with a stick.

  • Post from Brenig FB about possible fledging times. 7B5’s jumps are getting a little higher now.

  • LM6 and the chicks were calling. They could see LJ2.

    18.45 He arrived with a medium sized fish.


    LM6 quickly took it before 7B6 got a chance!




    Still very blustery on the nest.


    19.20 LM6’s tail end got lifted up in the wind.


    20.21 After the fish was finished, LM6 settled back with the chicks again. Can’t believe this weather in the middle of our summer.

  • Sunday 16 July

    Good morning Grinning and the terrible weather continues. 04.50 Soggy chicks on the nest this morning visited by dad.


    Just over half an hour later, LM6 comes to the perch 05.28

    05.42 She then flies to the nest

    05.44 She finds some fish scraps to eat.

    LM6 leaves the nest briefly, returning as she sees LJ2 approaching. He floats in with a small fish.

    LM6 takes it

    05.50 The chicks come for a feed.

    Not long into the feed and a wee head appears underneath to take the fish. Yes, of course, it’s 7B6!

    05.54 She doesn’t have the fish long as her older sister 7B5 then takes it off her

     7B6 decides to do some wing flapping whilst 7B5 is eating. 05.59


    7B6 now watching intently as 7B5 feeds. 06.10

    06.15 7B5 has left the fish and is feaking her beak.7B6 has the fish now.

     7B5 starts her wing flapping exercising now.

    06.23 LM6 is watching 7B6 eat. LJ2 is on the nest now too.

    06.31 LM6 takes the fish from 7B6 as her attention is distracted.

    LM6 flies off with the fish.

  • 06.43 LM6 returns having eaten the remainder of the fish.

     She stays on the nest with the chicks,

    They enjoyed a good preening session. 09.00

    09.08 LM6 starts calling as she sees LJ2 approaching. He arrives with a larger fish than the previous one.


    LM6 collects it.

    09.10 The chicks feed. 7B5 closest to the cam.


  • The chicks have had a good feed and dip in and out if it as LM6 carries on. 10.01




    10.46 LM6 swallows the last piece.

  • 11.07 LJ2 arrives with a large slice of bark.

    12.03 As the rain starts to fall, LM6 joins the chicks on the nest.


    The rain doesn’t last long. LM6 leaves at 12.32

  • 12.58 LM6 is back on the nest. The rain is back on.

     More preening 15.45


    Some together time for LJ2 and LM6 (closest to the camera) 16.03 

  • Quite quiet on the nest for the rest of the afternoon. The chicks did some flying practice with both getting some uplift.

    18.40 First it was 7B6, she managed a little jump.



    18.41 Then 7B5 had her turn, getting even higher.


    19.00 LM6 is settled down with the chicks. It’s still windy.


    19.26 The chicks face each other instead of sitting side by side.

    20.05.04 Flora arrives with a fish

    What a treat for the chicks, a fish each!! Both looked similar sized.

    20.24 7B5 finishes eating first and gets some flying practice in.

    20.26 7B6 then finishes and the chicks swap places. 7B6 feels the wind on her wings.



    20.28 7B5 again, her jumps are getting bigger.
