LJ2 returned 31 March 2023
LM6 returned 4 April 2023
Egg No. 1 laid 20 April - Hatched 27 May (37 days)
Egg No. 2 laid 23 April - Hatched 29 May (36 days)
Egg No. 3 laid 26 April - Hatched 1 June (37 days) Sadly, this little chick died on 3rd June. It coincided with LJ2 having a leg injury and unable to fish at the time. I don’t know if this was the sole reason, part of the reason or something else. RIP little one
The family of 5 for a couple of days. Bob 3, RIP, in between #1 and #2
Four weeks later, our two thriving youngsters, #1 and #2 (36 and 34 days as at 01/07/23)

LJ2 at the front.
Can’t wait to get the stats on the chicks at the ringing tomorrow.
12.36 All together again. (LJ2 on perch) Sounds a bit windy today.
Lots of preening from the chicks today
LM6 has been on and off the nest.
I went to look at the PTZ camera and found there is now a clock on that too. Also a logo. I scrolled back and this is the first of it appearing at 12.05.
Looking through footage, there was an Osprey circling below near the water at 14.24
LM6 was on the nest at the time (not intruder calling) so must’ve been LJ2. Maybe looking for fish in the shallow water.
LJ2 did bring a fish to the nest, a very green pike, at 16.41.
As usual of late, the feed was shielded by LM6
17.00 The feed finished as LM6 swallowed the tail.
18.00 LJ2 brings in a very long stick. It’s looking pretty windy on the nest.
18.21 LJ2 and LM6 on the nest together. She’s asking for fish. He sets off.
19.35 Fish delivered. Looks like another pike.
LM6 quickly takes the fish
The chicks are keen to eat, one biting at the fish’s head before LM6 begins the feed.
19.36 The feed begins
Towards the end of the feed, both chicks tackled a long stringy piece of skin.
First, the chick to the left 20.24
Then the chick to the right 20.30
20.32 LM6 managed it but as she started eating the tail, the chicks grabbed it
The chick on the left ended up winning it and managed to swallow it.
20.36 LJ2 came for leftovers but had to leave empty taloned.
21.15 LM6 and the chicks are lying together resting on the nest after their meal. She starts to become aware of something and is looking around.
She stands up
then starts chipping
LM6 flies off and quickly returns flapping and chipping
LM6’s flapping gets more franticOther chipping can be heard21.20 LJ2 arrives on the nest with a whole fish he must’ve caught for his supper since he got none of the last one!
He goes straight into mantling/chipping mode.
LJ2 then took off seconds later, leaving the fish on the nest.
LM6 continued to defend the nest, flew off briefly then returned.
The chicks guarding the fish!21.24 Once things quietened down, LM6 went for the fish but nobody was very hungry.
LJ2 eventually returned to the nest at 22.23
He put his talons on the fish
then changed his mind. He let go and left the nest at 22.30.
Friday 7;July
Good morning It’s a bit wet today, tricky to see what’s happening on the nest through the rain covered lens.
05.50 Looks like the chicks were on top of last night’s fish. LM6 pulls it out from underneath them.
05.55 LJ2 has caught another fish and is feeding the chicks as LM6 eats last night’s fish.
The cam goes offline at 06.04
08.33 Back online, our 2 chicks lying settled on the nest
And look who’s sporting a nice new blue leg band!
I’m out all day now, will catch up with events later.
