Laddie had a record breaking fish day on the 15th June, when he brought ELEVEN of them to the nest for NC0 and the chicks to dine on - amazing!

As the two chicks grew, it was clearly obvious - with the difference in size - that #1 was a female and #2 a male, this being confirmed at their ringing on the 22nd June.

NC0 began fishing for the first time this season on the 30th June, with TWO successful catches in one day. Hopefully, both she and Laddie will continue to bring plenty of fish for their growing youngsters to enjoy in a now, harmonious manner.

  • 10:10 PF4 has joined him

    10:13

Edit: PF4 flew off at 10:15

  • 12:55 Still no sign of NC0 or Laddie. PF5, front, and PF4 waiting

    It's very windy

    ©SWT/LotL

  • 14:22 Laddie with what looked like a tiny fish in his talons. PF4 was already on the nest perch, PF5 flew in, I thought he'd taken it before Laddie left the nest. Will need to check the footage on slow-mo as neither juveniles have the fish

Yep, definitely a fish in his talons

    PF5 incoming (left)

PF5 was first to Laddie's talons

Laddie flew off...where's the fish? His talons appeared to be empty

    Both looked for the fish

Edit: Ahh, PF4 went to the back left of the nest, the fish must have been a flapper. She made a couple of attempts to pick it up but the fish must have gone overboard!

  • 15:05 Laddie delivered another tiny fish

PF5 was determined to take it

Utter chaos as Laddie was dragged across the nest, his left leg was in PF5's beak

Another tug from PF5 - poor Laddie!

Did PF4, at the back of the nest, have hold of Laddie's other leg or the fish? First pic edited in: PF4 had hold of Laddie's other foot!

Laddie put his right foot down after PF4 had released her grip of it. The fish was somewhere in the area highlighted

PF5 picked up the fish from the nest, it had been in the talons he'd had hold of. Laddie's wings were spread

Laddie gave his wings a couple of flaps before heading off - he did put full pressure on his feet before taking off but I do hope no damage was done to his legs!

    The fish in PF5's beak

    Physical aggression shown by PF4

He flapped her away and carried the fish over to the left side of the nest

    He swallowed the fish whole

  • 17:46 I wonder where NC0 is? PF5 at the front

    ©SWT/LotL

  • 19:16 PF4 returned to the nest after a very brief spell away. Was PF5 expecting a fish to be delivered? He grabbed hold of her left foot when she landed and tugged it behind her

    PF5 calling expectantly

    PF4 landed

He pulled her leg right back

    PF4 got her foot back!

  • 19:31 Both flew off the nest after PF4 made human intruder alarm calls

    PF4 first

    Then PF5 seconds after

    ©SWT/LotL

  • PF5 was already on the nest perch when PF4 arrived back at 19:54

    ©SWT/LotL

  • Both were resting on the nest at 21:25 when suddenly, PF4 sounded off human intruder alarm calls again. She shot off the nest, knocking into PF5 in doing so. He was ok and then left the nest too

They both looked in this direction

There was a flight from beyond the birch corner

    PF4 rose, calling

PF5 had got up too. PF4 about to fly off.

She unintentionally knocked into PF5 which made him fall onto his right side

Whoever that bird was, was flying within the orange segment at this point

In the centre of the orange square, flying off down the inlet PF4 heading in its direction

    PF4 flying over the birch

PF5 flew off, making calls as he went

He headed left, out of cam view

  • PF5 was back on the perch at 21:35 (he had already made a very brief touchdown on there a couple of minutes after the incident - I'm pretty sure PF4 was on the cam post at that time too due to the closeness of the calls that could be heard prior to his arrival)

    He called for fish

PF5 stayed on the perch until flapping onto the nest at 21:50ish, once again fish calling

He left at 21:53 - veering off to the left, out of cam view

22:09 Both juvies were at the nest

PF4 only stayed a couple of minutes before leaving. She veered left after this pic

PF5 stayed on the perch until 22:23, when he too flew off to the left

He was back on the perch at 22:27

He flew off to the birch a couple of minutes later

I can't be sure if both PF4 and PF5 were both on the birch at 22:52, pre-night cam

    23:35 ENS

I really hope this situation changes tomorrow and that NC0 makes an appearance, as well as Laddie, to assure us that they are both well. PF4 and PF5 are hungry so a couple of early fish deliveries would be great! Keeping everything crossed.Fingers crossed
