LOCH GARTEN - JULY 2023

I start this thread with a heavy heart, as Brodie hasn't been seen at all on Friday 30th June. The last fish delivered to the nest was at 21.11 on 28 June, over 48 hours ago. Brodie was last sighted at 09.10 hours on 29 June, over 36 hours ago.

Chick 1 hatched 'early morning' on the 4 June and chick 2 overnight on 6 June. One egg didn't hatch (maybe number 1?). There were lots of intruders during the month of June, including KL5, and last year's male Axel on the weekend of 17/18th.  Brodie has disappeared before for a couple of days, and no fish were delivered over the first weekend after hatching on 10/11th June so maybe we should keep the faith and cross all eyes, toes and fingers that Brodie will come good, recover from whatever keeps him away from his nest and chicks, and deliver a stonking fish first thing on 1 July.

  • I don't think so Korky. They definitely said they won't be naming them. I think in the vid Fergus said 'joke' when he called them that. I very much doubt they would call the boys after himself and Fraser.
I am wondering if one fish each for the chicks and Asha are sufficient for two maturing chicks, though.
But perhaps I shouldn't complain. I imagine if Asha felt they needed more, she would go fishing now they are able to be be left alone.
    Three fish today: 03:59; 15:28 and 18:08.

Yes, they definitely did, SHEILA - but Fergus made it sound as tho those were officially unofficial names, IYSWIM.

Then again, can we trust them?  I was made to think I've been spelling "Brody" wrong, then it changed to Brodie.

Still, it's nice to know that dreich is DREE and not DRY.

I'm very down in the dumps at the absence of Community blogs and YouTube videos - but have obviously been primed by the tragedy at Clywedog, still hurting.

    Cry

    20 July

Asha spent most of the night on the perch:

She's now on the campost - I was happy to see that the PTZ was set to encompass the tip so that we could have seen her if she'd been there - which she now is Wink

But we can't see her head if she stands up straight.

  • FISH !!! !!! !!!

    EDIT

This was the most flattering view of the fish:

But there was a rather nice shot of Brodie's landing:

None of the tartans will match our nest Frowning2

That's overcooked, trying to undercook it now... deleted cos it's even worse.

I'm in such a muddle this morning, I completely forgot to respond to this - cos I've been thinking the same thing.

On average, Brodie's fish have been bigger than Odin's, I think, but I was thinking it's about time that deliveries were quite a lot more frequent.  Does anyone else remember?

Hopefully Asha will start fishing regularly soon, but then I'll be worried about the local-ish Goshawks - one was on the dead tree-tip at the beginning of last season, IIRC. Having said that, we have to face the fact that if a Goshawk gets the Osreys in its sights, nothing and no-one will stop it.

  • So a goshawk can take an adult Osprey? Was hoping it was only vulnerable chicks.

    Most certainly Frowning2

    FISH !!! !!! !!!

  • hello everyone, freebird66 and scylla have mentioned above (sorry i cant work out how to quote them) about Goshawk’s taking large birds, I noticed on the RSPB Goshawk cam a few days ago they were feeding on a red squirrel

I said to my friend the other day (tongue in cheek) that I was surprised they didn't shoot the Goshawks, considering the number of precious red squirrels they kill - lately there's been at least one on the nest nearly every day!

    G'night folks xxx

  • It only takes one Osprey to be taken by a goshawk
then it will all hit the fan

If my memory serves' me correct a goshawk was seen at this site before the Osprey's returned ???
