LM6 LJ2
So far so good! The first 2 chicks are doing well, the 3rd just hatched this morning.
Sunday 18 June
Good morning all LJ2 left the nest perch at 04.00, LM6 watched him go.
Our day cam is broken on the nest. Last night it blew, I thought the nest was being attacked like 2 years ago when it was felled, (a bit dramatic I know!) thank goodness it’s just the colour that has gone!
LM6 and the chicks this morning at 07.45, all looks well.Still colour on the PTZ camera.
Here is LJ2 around 04.00 after he left the nest perch.
He was there for 2 hours preening and contemplating.
LM6 arrived at the perch at 06.26. Moments later LJ2 (nearest camera) joined her.
Straight into preening mode
LM6 left to return to the chicks after 4 minutes. LJ2 stayed on for around another 52 minutes.
Hopefully he’s away fishing now.
Yay, colour pops back on the nest at 10.22
Before
and After
10.43 LM6 starts mantling and chipping
She does this intermittently over the next wee while.
An intruder is seen in the distance at the trees.
LM6 leaves the nest to chase the intruder away.
LM6 quickly returns to the nest and continues chipping and flapping. This becomes just calling and eventually she quietens just after 11.30.
1214 LJ2 arrives with the first fish of the day.
It was initially a blocked view feed until LM6 moved her position
LJ2 reappeared on the nest briefly.
LM6 offered the chicks the tail twice but neither managed it.
LM6 then ate the tail herself.
14.14 LJ2 arrives with his second fish of the day, a large one.
14.53 both chicks resting with full crops and LM6 still eating.
LM6 left the end of the fish on the nest after finishing her meal. 15.19 LJ2 claimed it and took it away for his meal.
After finishing the fish, LJ2 flew to the preening perch at 15.45
15.50 As the weather changed, LM6 spread herself over her chicks to protect them.
Just after 16.00 the rain got heavier and the skies darker. LM6 endured it all to shelter her chicks. A little foot and wing can be seen under LM6’s right wing.
16.38 rain has stopped, a wet LM6 decides to get up to reveal 2 lovely dry chicks.
19.52 LJ2 lands on the nest but without a fish.
LM6 and the chicks tell him they could do with a fish. After fiddling with sticks and dropping one overboard, LJ2 leaves.
16.20 After the rain, LJ2 arrived on the preening perch.
He gave his wings a good flap then had a shake before starting an intensive preening session. (Over 3 hours)
