So far so good! The first 2 chicks are doing well, the 3rd just hatched this morning.

  • All looking good here - thanks Gilder for all your updates and lovely captures
  • 12.00 LM6 pulls up the tail end of fish left and gives the chicks a wee feed. They look very hot on the nest today. #1 has been gular fluttering.

  • 15.09 LJ2 comes to the nest. LM6 is asking for fish. LZJ2 does a couple of intruder chips then flies off.

  • 16.39 LJ2 arrives with a good sized fish.

The chicks get up and turn around, going to LM6 for a feed.

The chicks are both calling for fish during the feed. #1 nearest cam

They both feed well, their crops are filling up.

At the end of the feed, both chicks are lying down sleeping against a piece of bark whilst LM6 has a little more fish.

  • I got a fright there. Around 18.00 LJ2 flew in with a piece of bark. He landed just in front of where #2 was lying. As LJ2 moved with the bark, he stood on a stick which rolled and went over #2’s head. I thought it was going to be squashed but thank goodness it managed to pull its head out . Then just after that, LJ2 stood on #2. LJ2 quickly pulled back and #2 looks okay. Phew!

LJ2 then started eating the leftover fish on the nest.

#2 lying sprawled out in the middle of the nest. There is a lot of bark and sticks lying in the centre area.

LJ2 with another piece of bark

It looked like #2’s head was fully under the stick

LJ2 was standing on the bark/stick which I thought was weighing on #2’s head.

Then I saw #2’s head was out and moving.

So many hazards these incredible birds face throughout their entire lifetime. Heart

  • The weather has turned within the last 20 minutes.

    18.50 LM6 preening, the chicks still resting/sleeping.

    It starts to get darker.

19.00 darker again and the wind can be heard whistling through the audio.

19.10 LM6 rounded the chicks together and has one under each wing. The rain has started.

  • The weather changed again. The rain didn’t get too heavy, it has brightened and the wind died down. Snap taken at 19.48.

20.46 LJ2 visits the nest. LM6 tells him he should only visit with a fish. He does some nest adjustments, thankfully putting a couple of pieces of bark a bit further from the nest cup.

LJ2 leaves and LM6 cuddles in over the chicks again.

  • 21.17 LJ2 had listened to LM6 and got her a nice fish.

    Both chicks ate well

LM6 got distracted, she saw LJ2 chasing crows in the background. Chicks were resting now anyway.

LM6 soon settled on the chicks.

21.55 LJ2 came to the nest and started eating the fish before flying off with it.

  • Sunday 11 June

Good morning Grinning It’s been a quiet morning so far.

Here is our family at 04.13 not long after day cam came on.

#2 went for an early morning wander.

LJ2 has been crow chasing and making adjustments to the nest.

LM6 telling LJ2 to go fishing.

  • 11.43 first fish of the day arrives, a very live one as it flaps about on arrival.

It was a bit tricky for LM6 to take, she was very vocal and it broke free at one point.

    LM6 quickly caught it again.

and it’s now being fed to the hungry chicks. #2 getting the first share of the feed.(right)

#1 moves closer and LM6 slightly changes position so #1 can be fed too.

#1 (left) has a large piece here.

The feed finishes at 12.07 with both chicks having fed well.
