Here he was, eating a good half of it before bringing it to the nest. I understand that it was quite a slim fish and he does need to keep himself strong to keep providing

Nice one Scylla, thanks. Yes, a lot of LJ2’s fish are headless compared to other males who bring in mostly whole ones!
09.28 LJ2 lands on the nest with another headless fish. He starts flapping and chipping. LM6, sitting on the chicks starts chipping too. There is an unseen intruder around.
LJ2 flies off to give chase. LM6 continues to chip and flap.
LJ2 lands again after a few minutes
Things quieten down and LM6 takes the fish from LJ2
The chicks get their feed at 09.39.
LJ2 cleans his beak on a stick on the nest.
10.04 next feed, under half an hour from the last. The chicks aren’t very hungry and eat a few pieces still lying down.
Next feed 10.50. Chicks still not overly hungry but take a few bites of fish.
11.40 another feed. The chicks get up this time to eat.
Once LM6 and the chicks are finished feeding and settled, LJ2 takes the fish. 11.56
It’s 22.58 before LJ2 returns with fish. LM6 doesn’t respond straight away so LJ2 eats a little more on the nest.
LM6 goes round to collect it. She doesn’t take it, LJ2 continues eating. LM6 moves a piece of bark over the nest.
The chicks gravitate towards LJ2 who then starts offering food.
#2 takes 2 or 3 pieces from dad.#1 starts to come over then decides against it and lies down.
#2 lies down too.13.21 LM6 finally takes the fish from LJ2. He then leaves. LM6 eats some and then shares the fish with her chicks.
#2 seems to have eaten well this feed.
#1 did get some too.
14.00 chilling in the sun.
14.07 LM6 tries another feed. (#2left)
#1 is initially more receptive than #2.
#2 then changes its mind and gets up to receive some food.
The chicks both settle down when they’re satisfied. LM6 walks the fish tail end around the nest and starts eating it, offering the chicks a piece every now and then. Eventually #2 starts eating again after refusing many times. This has been a long feed lasting over half an hour.14.41 LJ2 appears on the perch. Just after that, LM6 crunches down the fish tail.
