LOCH GARTEN JUNE 2023

Link to May 2023 thread

Asha is the proud parent of 3 eggs, the father of which being dubious but probably URM - now called Brodie - as we hardly saw NN2 (for whom we wish all the best elsewhere) be accepted by Asha. Brodie had a lot of trouble fending off intruders which has made him a bit flaky in the fish catching and delivery department. Poor old Asha didn't eat for over 2 days last week. The main intruder was KL5, who seems to have stopped hanging around so much now, which is good as we approach hatch date and the need for fish will ramp up.

A scylla-super-snap of the happy parents-to-be

 Also, courtesy of scylla, here are the laying dates;

25 April - egg 1

28 April - egg 2

01 May - egg 3

  • FISH !!! !!! !!!

Is it a new one, or yesterday's returned? Hang on...

In the video on June 11 at 1:29 pm, the chick that gets fed first  (bob 1) is the bigger one of the two

Before 11 June I had been startled by a sudden apparent reversal in sizes.

When Bob #1 first hatched I was reminded of Dai Dot, whom you won't know but he was a Welsh Osprey with 2 white "dots" over his beak, so I was looking for Scottish Gaelic for "4 dots" but didn't find anything catchy.

Please correct me if I am getting this wrong.

I'm not going to be able to correct you (at least not soon*) and I can quite see why you have taken the stand that you have.

I wish I could draw on PC.

*As others know, I have permanent "health probs" which are severely exacerbated in hot weather, I shall be "collapsing" shortly.

Jury's out.  I haven't followed every minute since yesterday evening, so Brodie could have taken one away and brought it back - but given the timing, I reckon this was a new one which Brodie's made deep inroads into Blush

The best view I could find:

Earlier, for your delectation, some loud voices from the Osplets and, sadly, another barrier from Asha:

    Next best thing.

I think I was so bewitched by the 4 dots that I missed the 5th - and it varies as to how much it shows up, depending on lighting, angle, etc.

The best I can do for now, but it doesn't support me as a reliable reporter!  (This was my original 4-dot snap.)

I'm going to agree with you scylla. I think it was a new fish this morning. I was watching Asha late last night and she was calling for fish and I reckoned she'd finished off yesterday's offering. Unless he took whatever was left from yesterday but then there'd be nothing left this morning. Oh what a conundrum!

    Anyhow, 10.04 and she's calling

  • Hi all, good to see that Brocie has been fishing again, or at least we think it is a new one. Thank you so much 25mac for the local update, that could well explain why we had no fish for a while. Scylla my dear, you go and chill out for a while. We do not get hot hot weather up here BUT today, phew, it is hot, we moan when we have no sun and when it comes out, we moan it is too hot!! Never happy. All looks good, apart from the lates stick that Asha de idea to plonk in front of the camera! Away for the afternoon, will be back after dinner.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Here 'tis! Good boy Brodie. Asha was so busy feeding the bobs from the previous whopper she never noticed him coming in to replenish the store cupboard
