LOCH GARTEN JUNE 2023

Link to May 2023 thread

Asha is the proud parent of 3 eggs, the father of which being dubious but probably URM - now called Brodie - as we hardly saw NN2 (for whom we wish all the best elsewhere) be accepted by Asha. Brodie had a lot of trouble fending off intruders which has made him a bit flaky in the fish catching and delivery department. Poor old Asha didn't eat for over 2 days last week. The main intruder was KL5, who seems to have stopped hanging around so much now, which is good as we approach hatch date and the need for fish will ramp up.

A scylla-super-snap of the happy parents-to-be

 Also, courtesy of scylla, here are the laying dates;

25 April - egg 1

28 April - egg 2

01 May - egg 3

  • Chipping?

Oh, 2 Ospreys on the nest on PTZ but I can't see male's ring. It should be Brodie ??? !!!
  • Take care Scylla x
Brodie has landed to help Asha defend against unknown intruder!!!

  • I am sure it was Brodie.  Here is are the times of Asha's comings and goings

    14.17     Asha flew

14.20     She returned with a stick

    14.49     She flew

14.53     She returned with a clump of something, but did nothing with it.

    15.12     She flew

15.16     She returned and moves nest base material, perhaps looking for some more discarded fish.

15.20     She flew again, and this time was away for much longer.

15.30     She returned, and looking above her calls loudly.  Someone landed on the perch on the far left of the screen, Asha calls and cam searches

15.36     Brodie landed on the nest and defended with Asha.

15.37.18   Brodie flies off to chase the unseen intruder.

    15.39.18   Asha intruder calls.

    15.39.49   She mantles

15.40.02   Someone seen in the sky above, Asha mantled.  She watches intently.

Asha started fish soliciting, loudly.  Cam found Brodie on a perch, preening.

    I'm off now.

  • Hello all, logging on first time today. Just what is going on with Brodie I wonder, goes fishing and has it all to himself? It has to be the presence of KL5 that is putting him off, he has been around a lot since yesterday, making himself comfortable on the nest, trying to mate. If, as we presume that Brodie is still a young one, he will be thinking, I will just keep away out of things until that fellow leaves!! Hopefully he will, and then he can go fishing.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I wssn't 100% sure it was/is him or a new intruder, the breast is so pale - bt the head looks right, so...

I was doing some more but can't, SYAL.

  • I notice from the excellent captures that Brodie does not appear to be starving, either…

    Quite!

One last push from me, I do hope there will have been a fish when I get back later:

  • 17.46.57 Brodie brought in his first fish over nearly a day and a half.  She was calling at 17.45.

A large whole brown trout.  At last!

    17.49 Brodie flew off

I was a bit worried to begin with, as only one osplet appeared to be begging, but #2 popped and and received food too.

Let's hope that Brodie has regained the territory and KL5 has taken the hint.  I can't wait nearly two days for another decent feed for them all.
